Movie reviews, news and interviews since 2004. We particularly love the unusual and absurd – kung fu, giallo, Czech New Wave, etc.

I also love that Arnold’s wife and child are incapable of recognizing him in the Turbo Man costume despite being 3 feet away and hearing his deep Austrian accent, which I choose to believe is not poor scripting but an intentional reference to what a horrendous absentee father and husband he is.

Man, this shit is like Bailey’s if Bailey’s were actually good, two thumbs up, been putting a generous amount in my coffee and hot chocolate over the holidays while the in laws are here.

#Watched Jingle All the Way (1996) - CHRISTMAS MOVIE #6 - Arnold and Sinbad rampage though Minnesota while Phil Hartman is the king of pussy-slammin’ suburban dads, all the yoga moms want his Christmas package.

Terrible, but in the spirit of the season, 3 things I actually liked about this movie:

#Watched Long Distance Information (2011) - CHRISTMAS MOVIE #5

Oof, subtlely brutal with gnarly twist.

I should point out that this is @wonggifs.bsky.social’s favorite movie, hopefully I’m pointing this out while he’s traveling and can’t contradict me 😆
#JCVDecember The Order (2001) - savage knockoff of Last Crusade, barely even file off the serial numbers. Watched this by accident - only realized halfway through that I meant to watch The Quest. Terrible, but worth it for JCVD fighting in the Old City of Jerusalem while in full Hasidic garb. /

POINT: DIE HARD is the best Die Hard.

COUNTERPOINT: In the Die Hard SUDDEN DEATH, Jean-Claude Van Damme has a brutal fight to the death with a mascot and briefly becomes the Pittsburgh Penguins' goalie during GAME 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals and stops a shot.

#Watched Wake Up Dead Man (2025) - nowhere near the high of the original but an improvement over the painfully cartoonish first sequel. O’Connor does a great job selling his character’s inner soulfulness - shame most of the red herring supporting cast lacked even rudimentary flesh on their bones.

...anyway, I did not realize just how friggin' huge his sculpture of Wilbur Whateley was supposed to be.

Speaking of accursed items, this is filled with some horrid green liquid I can only assume is Grinch jizz

#Watched Skyscrapers and Brassieres (1963) - Russ Meyer explains the principle of the two force vector as only he can.

If you ever wondered how those space age women got those rocket ship shaped chests, this is weirdly edifying.

#Watched Baby Assassins Everyday! (2025) - Never hits the action high points of the 3d film, but the extra run time really lets the team build the world and explore fun corners of Mahiro and Chisato’s relationship (man, this walks RIGHT up to the line of making them explicitly a lesbian couple). /

why the fuck did Chrome decide to spontaneously reorganize my bookmarks in the most unhelpful way possible.

Completely agree. Posters have really been on a downward spiral and I love seeing this kind of old school work.
I rag on modern movie posters a lot and have even written about how it's a lost art.

So even though I find Iñárritu insufferable and Tom Cruise holds little sway for me, I'm immediately interested in whatever this might be thanks to a killer movie poster.

Take note, movie marketing teams!
no idea if this will be a good movie or not, I’m just ecstatic to see a poster like this for an upcoming movie — peak of the artform, IMO

#Watched Eve and the Handyman (1961) - As smut, a step back from Teas, but as a film, a step forward for Meyer. It’s still essentially a silent with comic narration but the filmmaking has more visual flair, faster pace, and snappier rhythms. Doesn’t even feel like a “sex” comedy for the first 15m. /

This is actually crazy, they made a movie with better dinosaur sfx than the last 4 Jurassic World movies for $7 million bucks
#NowWatching Primitive War (2025 Luke Sparke) Dinosaurs?! Soldiers?! Ryan Kwanten?!!!!! I'm in.

The freakiest and most ambitious of the SNDN films. Serial killer Santa is gone, replaced by Clint Howard in a penis mask and even more f'd up stuff. I'd grouse about the acting, but the fact that there seems to have been a perpetual gas leak going on during the shoot only adds to the demented vibe.

Another vamp done, that’s six players now, trying to get the whole team painted before the local League kicks off in January (I am such a slow painter and have to fit it around 8 million other things). #warhammer #bloodbowl

I put as much effort into this review as I think QT did into this short film.
