Thread: Each week I run a simulation of Australia’s main electricity grid using rescaled generation data to show that it can get very close to 100% renewable electricity with 24GW/120GWh of storage (5 hrs at av demand)
Results:
Last week: 100.0% RE
Last 224 weeks: 98.6% RE (1/5)

When global temperatures shot up by ~6°C about 56 million years ago, plants were unable to thrive

The reduced ability of vegetation & soils to capture & store carbon may have kept temperatures elevated for >100,000 years

Today Earth is warming ~10 times faster than it did 56 million years ago
56 million years ago, the Earth suddenly heated up – and many plants stopped working properly
It could be a sign of what’s to come.

These figures aren’t too common as we aim for 10-15% average across a year, but it demonstrates the potential when the conditions are right!

It’s no accident the ladder climbers & fake smart careerist class occupying our government, mass media, boardrooms etc aren’t capable of understanding/responding to what Hansen is theorizing here.

A proper response would change the world within weeks. And that is the last thing big capital wants.

The energy transition happens often in unlikely places at unprecedented rates.

Take Nepal: Over the past year, electric vehicles accounted for 76 percent of all passenger vehicles and half of the light commercial vehicles sold in Nepal.

Five years ago, that number was essentially zero.
