Since I think this exchange demonstrates EXACTLY the reason Graeme Wood's commentary on Epstein's use of Nabokov's Lolita for his disgusting rape and abuse of girls is not stupid or irrelevant, I'm preserving it despite someone getting his ego pricked enough to block me.

This! The extent to which people don’t actually enjoy thinking has been eye opening.
That’s before I reckon with the ethics of using a thing for ghost efficiency that is pretty societally devastating.

And on a final personal note, I don’t want to become stupid before my time. I really don’t. I will keep mucking about so that I can keep mucking about, for as long as possible.

if you’re only a casual Tesla watcher you might not realize that Elon has mostly pivoted away from cars and is now constantly talking about populating the earth with humanoid robots
Optimus will overturn the fundamentals of economics to an extent that we may not even need money in the future, Musk says, and yet he still recommends people "hold onto your Tesla stock," which seems like a kind of mixed message.

I’m not a Super Smart Politics Guy but I think one problem the GOP is facing is that it’s hard to convince voters the other side is evil when they’re watching endless videos of people being pulled out of their cars and homes in front of their screaming children by your masked goons.

I never read too much into oral arguments (the original ACA oral arguments had me thinking it was going down) but certainly what you could read from the tea leaves this morning.

6-3 or even 7-2 not out of the realm of possibilities. But 5-4 wouldn't shock me.
If I had to guess right now (and it is premature!) I'd say the Supreme Court is going to strike down Trump's tariffs.

All three liberals are clearly against the government. Barrett too. Roberts leaning that way. And we haven't even gotten to tax-hater Gorsuch yet.

yes
3 is out, and while there's a lot more to be counted, it's looking more 2 than 1
I’ll be watching election returns, looking to see if the overall results seem most like

1) Normal thermostatic swing against the party that won the last presidential election (like 2021)

2) Big, energized opposition party success (like 2017)

3) Surprising strength for the ruling party (like 2022)

This and the Chicago indictments make it abundantly clear that the rule of law is dead at DOJ. The agency has been fully weaponized to smite Trump’s enemies and shield his friends.
Breaking on MSNBC:

Two federal prosecutors have been placed on leave at the direction of the White House after filing a sentencing memo seeking 27 months in prison for a pardoned Jan. 6 rioter who brought illegal guns and ammunition to President Obama's house in 2023.

New in PN: The DOJ's "election monitoring" is really voter intimidation

"If Hispanic voters are no longer in the GOP fold after watching Trump’s ceaseless, country-wide violence against immigrants, the administration’s solution is to make sure they can’t cast a ballot."

I know it’s too much to expect them to know their history, but if the American Revolution had a motto, it definitely would not have been “immigrants go home.”

It would have been “get your fucking soldiers out of our cities.”

Trump refuses to back away from his false “2020 election fraud” claims, and clearly intends to use them to bend rules in his (and the Trumpist/MAGA GOP’s) favor and to challenge future results that he doesn’t like.
The seeds are being planted to rig the midterms. It’s becoming more explicit.

(Also note the gratuitous shot at the NBA, aka Black athletes who oppose him)

Conservative individualism in a nutshell: the same people who said we need mass deportation so we can take care of “our own” are cheering on the suspension of SNAP because now they don’t want other people to receive “handouts.” They proudly hate other people. It’s a murderous, anti-society ideology.

the way Trump and his administration keep going on livestreams and tv to laugh about this, I can’t really compare it to anything political that comes to mind, only thing that comes to mind rn is a serial killer who writes letter taunting family of their victim.
Trump’s victims are now washing up in Trinidad:
“The U.S. campaign targeting what it says is drug trafficking from Venezuela has exposed Trinidad to the fallout: unidentified bodies with burn marks and missing limbs showing up in its territory.“
