Languages education at all levels, especially higher, is under existential threat in the UK. It is an impoverished society which produces so few students interested in languages & a shortsighted state that cannot subsidise this public good through tough times. Pls consider signing.

I totally agree with @jheathershaw.bsky.social , & have signed the petition. "Say it in English, only louder" was never a good way of dealing with the outside world; in current times, it's even less appropriate.

Just heard Chris Philp on BBC’s Today programme explaining why the Tories want to leave the ECHR. He claimed ECHR isn’t mentioned in Belfast Agreement - which is simply untrue. The UK govt agreed to incorporate it into NI law & give direct access to the courts (Strand 3). Why no BBC fact-check?

I would like to hear similar sentiments expressed with as much conviction by leading UK politicians.
Macron remarks are notable- some quotes: "We have been incredibly naive in entrusting our democratic space to social networks that are controlled either by large American entrepreneurs or large Chinese companies, whose interests are not at all the survival or proper functioning of our democracies."
President Macron: “Europeans, let's wake up!

We have been incredibly naive in entrusting our democratic space to social networks.”

We’ve just published a new report, based on our annual economics conference. It distils the big policy debates on the European economy post-Draghi, drawing on the brainpower around the table.

Some journalist friends convinced me it’s worth sharing — so here’s a thread.

For all the ongoing nationalist sentiment in Scotland, this is something that Scots almost never do. I'm not sure I can think of a single time I've been told by a Scot that as a Jew I'm not Scottish.
She wonders aloud how many generations must pass before you're English (SIX??) & concludes "it is a question without an easy answer" but that "there must be some form of consensus".

There is a consensus. It's the view of almost everyone in this country that you can be English without being white.

But Ukraine refused to pull its draft resolution.

So the US voted... with Russia, Iran, Israel & North Korea... against Ukraine.

▪️ It’s not Russia that decides on NATO membership,it’s the alliance itself
