Is Splatoon (3) eventually fun? I just tried playing for the first time last night, and it seems like they make you get your ass kicked by high-level obsessives for a couple hours before you unlock even basic features. Kind of a miserable introduction.

“reality tv is inherently fascist” is my most consistently vindicated hot take of all time
Kristi Noem has been working with the producer of “Duck Dynasty” to pitch a reality TV show—titled “The American”—where immigrants will compete in a string of challenges across the country “for the honor of fast-tracking their way to U.S. citizenship,” according to a new report.
Noem Plots Reality Show Where Migrants Fight for Citizenship
A Homeland Security official told the Daily Beast that the show is in the early stages of vetting, though approval has not been given—or denied.

“Can ChatGPT experience joy or suffering? Does Gemini deserve human rights?” our tech columnist asks. “Many A.I. experts I know would say no, not yet, not even close. But I was intrigued.”
Should We Start Taking the Welfare of A.I. Seriously?
As artificial intelligence systems become smarter, one A.I. company is trying to figure out what to do if they become conscious.

there really is no alternative to tearing up CBP and ICE root and branch
A US citizen with a learning disability who has just suffered a medical emergency asks a CBP officer for directions outside the emergency room. He ends up detained in an icebox for ten days and has the assistant secretary of DHS lying about him to the public at large. popular.info/p/us-citizen...

Democratic fundraising tezts are like "They're humiliating us! If you don't give us $5 RIGHT NOW we're going to end our lives!"

Republican fundraising texts are like "Hey it's Pete, look at these military flight paths. (hic)"

The hosts of @threedomusa.bsky.social are unfamiliar with the Jonah story, which is really interedting to me. I guess it's one of the books that is much bigger with Jews. (cuz of Ypm Kippur)

(sorta like how we don't really care about Daniel, and it's the Christians' #1 OT story)

Is it possible watching reality TV shows like The Bachelor - where viewers see something they know is fake, want to believe it and know they cannot trust those who make it to be truthful about the process - feeds overall media mistrust? My Substack screed: loom.ly/iTJHeh4
Can following 'The Bachelor' lead to mistrust of all media?
One cranky TV critic's screed suggesting how reality TV might feed mistrust of all media.

When I enter one of those HGTV house giveaways, I'm motivated in part by the prize but also in part because @janiehaddad.bsky.social has mentioned being interested in talking to a winner of one of those online sweepstakes.
