I’ve been in game dev for 26 years and I can’t remember any other time where a specific tech was being insistently and persistently pushed on devs as a group in the public sphere.
Why would it? Cui bono? Why would any given dev have an interest in other devs using tech they don’t have a stake in?

My conspiracy theory about genAI in games blowing up more and more by big companies is that they’ve all got a ton of investors insisting they use genAI tools otherwise they(investors) won’t be able to bankroll em anymore

Doing docs with AI is making the primary source of truth unreliable for the team and creates ambiguity or conflict, and thus also a terrible idea.

As the backlash to generative AI in video games continues to pick up steam heading into 2026, it'll be fascinating to see what is considered "made with generative AI." Can a dev team say they're not using AI if they're writing design docs with Copilot or using chatGPT to make schedules and budgets?

I have again been asked if AI was used to make my game.
For transparency, my minions used generative AI to make all the parts of the game that didn't benefit from a human touch, were too boring to make or not important enough to craft by hand. In other words, we didn't use any generative AI.

Not just a petering out during the Biden years, but a concerted effort by moderate US senators, largely uncontested by senators to their left, to substitute the ambitions of the GND with a combination of the status-quo affirming IIJA/BIL & the tax credit focus of IRA.
The closest thing the left had to an answer to the question of what the future should look like (including aesthetically though with mixed results) was the green new deal. the petering out of that movement’s popular momentum in the Biden years has left a void that has yet to be filled
