IMO the tone of this is unrealistic in that it implies U.S. Art 5-type “platinum” guarantees are plausible/meaningful. IMO this is wrong for at least 3 reasons. First, NATO is literally a “treaty” alliance, w the treaty ratified by the Senate, with all that implies under the Constitution 1/4

European leaders commit to aid Ukraine militarily against future Russian attacks, if a peace deal is reached. Nothing Trump and Russia asked for will be part of deal, including their requests to occupy Ukrainian territory. The US was reduced to an observer role, France will lead the coalition.

Trust me on this—a demilitarized zone in Russian-controlled territory is pure fantasy. It will never happen. The fact that this is being discussed at all is a testament to the extremely low levels of Russia competence among the US negotiators.

I am doubtful about European security guarantees for Ukraine, can one trust them? With regards to American security guarantees I consider them totally worthless. Who knows what the American regime comes up with next? Who knows what lunatic the Americans will put in the White House next?
