Things used in everyday life are the real archaeological treasures! These sewing #needles were made from animal bone some 15,000 years ago. Some designs simply don't need to be improved, because form and functions were perfectly matched from the start. Form follows function! 🧵1/2

Something ancient and wonderful for the weekend! 🤩

The world’s oldest known sculpture of a horse!

This tiny figurine was carved from mammoth ivory by an Ice Age artist some 40,000 years ago!

Eboracum was a fort founded in AD 71 and later a city in the Roman province of Britannia. In its prime it was the largest town in northern Britannia and a provincial capital. The site ultimately developed into the present-day city of York, in North Yorkshire, England. #RomanSiteSaturday

Fragments of decorative wall plaster from Roman Lincoln (Lindum). The fragments came from the Greetwell villa site in Lincoln (sadly destroyed by quarrying during the C19th), and are now part of the collections at Lincoln Museum. 📷 My own. #FrescoFriday #RomanBritain

#FindsFriday This fabulous little figurine of a woman was found in Egypt from ~3000BC

But based on the pose she was probably carved in Mesopotamia

Buuuut she's made from Lapis Lazuli from Afghanistan!

Quite a journey!

A late medieval pocket sundial from Freiburg. The portable sundial once contained a small compass in the circular recess, helping to align the sundial along the north–south axis so the correct time could be determined.

An ox-head Iron Age bowl handle from Llantrisant Fawr in Wales. Some 2000 years old and gloriously ’Celtic’ with incised tongue. Known (I believe) as ‘bovril’ the vessel was worked on by @archaedelle.bsky.social . Having seen it this week I thought it perfect for #findsfriday #archaeology #celts

Some very sad images coming out of Hong Kong with that massive fire in the high rises.

This might be a major disaster with lots of loss of life and property.

Urgh, those poor people + pets .... I hope they got out in time.
