📌 🧵 "The purpose of a system is what it does, after all." 👇🏽
Any "free speech" organization that partners with the Manhattan Institute to file an amicus brief is not actually a "free speech" organization.
NEW: A prominent free speech group helped right-wing dark money score a legal win against an Ohio school board and its anti-bullying policy, which protected transgender and nonbinary students.

Exactly. "Free Speech" has become conflated with the right to an audience, who must be compelled if necessary
It’s the same situation as with the Free Speech Union in the UK. “Free Speech” in effect becomes compulsory listening to the right and suppression of liberal values.

…If you think this is a good thing, a right thing, a "kind" thing, then we have such a fundamental mismatch of values that all questions of technology need to be put on Long Pause while you & i figure out what we mean by "good," "right," & "kind." You can't technofix your way out of values problems
The comments on this are all about how sweet it is and I feel insane. Using AI to make fake memories of your grandma with dementia and telling her they happened and then filming her reaction

This is why @emilymbender.bsky.social @alexhanna.bsky.social say to name the specific thing rather than calling it "AI".

Right now, ChatGPT is bucketed under the same term as a model train to translate one specific language into another and which is carefully trained through curated data.

Neoliberalism destroyed the real economy decades ago through deregulation and deindustrialization which in turn helped build the base for Trump and destroy the Democratic Party as it was taken over by the consultant class that had initially led the charge to gut government under neoliberalism

The fascist right has been world building the current moment for decades.

The war on Christmas was only part of the narrative project that has become the fascist reordering of the world.

Stories and narratives turn into real world change radically fast in terms of actual social change
It's a deliberate weaponized narrative containing antisemitism and Islamophobia and general xenophobia slightly laundered into a campaign that old bigots love getting all in a lather about
In retrospect the Bush-era War On Christmas stuff seems more ominous than it did at the time. It was just cable news guys crying about dumb/fake shit, then and now; I mean the campaign to turn Christmas, which most everyone likes and feels warmly about, into just another thing to get mad about.

For non-academics: this means the student is likely done at OU because the TA gig is attached to tuition waivers for graduate school. Sunk time at OU will be lost and the options are to quit or start over somewhere else.

The government is run by billionaire fascists and child rapists and they are going to do all in their power to ethically cleanse the planet.

American fascism is only getting warmed up unfortunately.

It's the Epstein victims who need the apology.

And block anyone who defended Garland. The Garland DOJ defenders were part of a propaganda operation to make sure Epstein's victims did not see justice AND that Americans stopped pushing for it.

Also goes for defenders of Barr, but people know that.

It's true that Garland did nothing about Trump and Epstein while being completely aware of the crimes. The crimes were public information! Garland was installed to protect the DOJ, which protects Trump and Epstein. It's explained in this free 2023 article. sarahkendzior.substack.com/p/servants-o...

This article by @sarahkendzior.bsky.social brings lays it out clearly.

The University of Oklahoma has stripped the graduate student who gave a failing grade to Samantha Fulnecky of instructional duties, calling their grading in this case “arbitrary.”

This is a disgraceful capitulation by a university to those who seek to destroy it.

Why read past headlines: I can't document all the times he said "I don't know" because it's a near-daily duck for him.

But I list the big ones. More importantly, I tell you what it means: Trump is exhausted. Too exhausted for his old B.S.

Trump's all-purpose excuse to avoid answering questions used to be "we'll have it in two weeks."

In 2025, that shifted. Now it's just "I don't know."

To hear Trump talk, he knows absolutely nothing.

I analyze what this shift means.
