I promise I will stop soon but I have to share this insane three-page sequence about immigration policy with a payoff you will absolutely not see coming.

14-year old Maria Johnson is missing.

Last seen in Dundalk yesterday (12/5) at 1:20 AM. She was wearing all dark clothing and white shoes.

Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Baltimore County Police Department at 410-887-7321 or call 911.

Transgender People Find Rare Sanctuary in Baltimore

Definitions question: Is it still catcalling if there’s no actual shouting, whistling, etc? Like, some guy told me I’m beautiful yesterday (true), and it wasn’t loud, but there’s still this experience of existing in public as a “woman” making my body a constant subject for comment.

This. You can’t only defend the rights and humanity of “good women” because that implies there are times where sexism is appropriate. Misogyny isn’t a punishment we dole out to women who behave poorly.
It’s amazing how much a woman behaving badly makes people think they have a hall pass to use the most sexist language and rhetoric they can think of

More and more every day, this becomes my Baltimore feeling.
This is one of those things that I think is quietly important – when these people are talking shit about cities, Portland or Minneapolis or New York or Charlotte or wherever, you have to loudly say, “no, fuck you, you’re lying, that town and its people whip ass and you’re the asshole”
“I walk around Portland, and I go, ‘Fuck you, assholes. Portland is fine.’” - John Darnielle, @themountaingoats.bsky.social. We're proud to claim you as a Portlander, sir.

Something I keep thinking about in convos about 'when to leave' is that finances really ARE an insurmountable barrier for people, as are qualifications (e.g. 'digital nomad' visas are great, but what if you're a barista, or a pipefitter?), and, of course, disability penalties.
When Is It Time to Flee?

So sick of mainstream news outlets covering trans people like we're a sideshow. While they're busy rage farming about the trans woman of the week who plays a sport, we're dying.

This week's story is up: ten more stories from trans people about what #TDOR means to them. Give it a read.
More Trans Americans Talk Transgender Day of Remembrance

I've never had a trans woman tell me to get back in the kitchen, or make a "joke" about how women shouldn't be allowed to vote. I've never seen trans women outside the planned parenthood calling women murderers and whores. trans women have never dogged me out for incorrectly performing femininity

Open call for #trans folks in #Baltimore. I'm working on a story about trans people who moved to Baltimore for safety reasons.

Looking to highlight trans voices, but would also love to hear from parents of trans kids. If this sounds like you, DM me!

A poem for today: "Go Slow" by Langston Hughes. He puts into words something that's been on my mind lately - the double standards oppressed people are held to in their resistance. A good and necessary reminder. #poetryfortherevolution #poetry

The story of LGBT rights is a story of advances followed by setbacks followed by media with no skin in the game saying, "It's because you were too loud/asked for too much/moved too fast/got too big for your britches/didn't make your case." That never changes--but happily it's never the last word.
