Oh dang this is good
We’ve built two justice systems in the US—one that bends over backward to shield the wealthy and powerful, and another that comes down hard and fast on the poor and marginalized. Trump and Epstein show that it’s easier to squeeze a rich man through the eye of a needle than to see one sent to prison.
The Epstein story gets a something that is tearing at the heart of the electorate: elite impunity. The idea that wealthy and powerful people can do terrible things *at scale* and face no consequences for them. Whatever political party actually stops it could rule the country for a generation.

The model of holding individual senators responsible is broken here. The retirees clearly agreed to take the fall. Which is why the nos should get no credit for voting no unless they move to oust Schumer

How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

Imagine how little crime there will be when only police feel safe to walk around!
as a DC resident I cannot overemphasize how much less safe I feel
all these media asking democrats 'but crime seems to be down in DC isn't that good'

ARMED MILITARY ON THE STREETS IS NEVER FUCKING GOOD

She was brought to the US as an 8yo, worked hard, studied, earned a scholarship, planned to become a nurse.

ICE kidnapped her. Held her for 6 MONTHS in a detention facility with conditions so miserable that she finally agreed to voluntarily move to Honduras, which her family left at gunpoint.
After six months in ICE custody, Charlotte woman chooses voluntary removal to Honduras
A 20-year-old Honduran woman who has lived in the Charlotte area for more than a decade will soon be removed from the U.S.

our press team asked if I wanted to be included in a media advisory about trump's national guard dictator behavior. No clue if they'll actually dare to use what I sent them, but I'm just going to say how it is

I just left the Everglades Immigrant Interment Camp. No, I’m not using their ridiculous name. It was a very tough to witness humans in those cages. Every Floridian should be ashamed that our taxpayer money is being used for this.

If you’re in office—and you don’t call this out—you’re choosing a side.

Silence is compliance.

And “oops, I didn’t notice the dictatorial threat” won’t cut it.
Every Republican who goes on the Sunday shows tomorrow should be pressed to denounce this illegal and authoritarian proclamation from the president. And none of this "I didn't read the tweet" bullshit.

No exaggeration, this is Declaration of Independence-level tyranny. It's indistinguishable from other "injuries and usurpations" listed by Jefferson in the document. Many don't come close to this level of arrogant hostility.
CBP SECTOR CHIEF GREG BOVINO TO LA RESIDENTS: “We don’t work for Karen Bass… better get used to us now, this is going to be normal very soon.”🤔

If it quacks like Martial Law…

How long til Cali folks move to stop funding this with their tax dollars?

America is beautiful, contradictory, unfinished. I am proud of our country even as we constantly strive to make it better, to protect and deepen our democracy, to fulfill its promise for each and every person who calls it home.

Happy Independence Day. No Kings in America.

We're going to need Nuremberg trials when this is over, yes, and to send a significant number of people currently in the federal government to prison. But we're going to need an unwavering commitment to ostracizing the supporters of it, as well. Never accept them again in polite society.
“In Cell 15, Plaintiff Abrego Garcia and 20 other Salvadorans were forced to kneel from approximately 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM, with guards striking anyone who fell from exhaustion. During this time, Plaintiff Abrego Garcia was denied bathroom access and soiled himself…”

i think we've bred our politicians to mostly be cowards because they think their job is following polls instead of shaping them, like there has been a profound regression in political leadership over the past few generations, which coincides with the total collapse of Congress as a governing body
cowardice is a much bigger problem that outright evil or cartoonish corruption
i think a vast majority of democrats are basically good, with a significant portion of them being really indecisive cowards until faced with the obvious, but there are a lot of stinkers

It is kind of darkly funny that Donald looked the American people in the eye and said “You know what? You people aren’t even worth the effort of selling the war,” and we looked him right back and said “Yes, you are absolutely right.”

America's secret police just detained a guy who might be Mayor of New York City and his NYPD escort. We have to abolish ICE. That should be the baseline Democratic Party position.
Trump is sending ICE to blue cities to enact the "largest mass deportation program in history" and Chicago is at the top of the list.

I'm calling for every Democratic leader and candidate to stand against ICE, to call for its abolition, and to materially support immigrants.

Inaction is complicity.

Beyond the reprehensible and shocking arrest of a US senator, the federal government is admitting that it is using military force to occupy a US city for political reasons.
Kristi Noem: "We are not going away. We are staying here to liberate the city from the socialists and the burdensome leadership that this governor and that this mayor have placed on this country and what they have tried to insert into the city."

Sen. Alex Padilla is then forcibly removed!
