Let it be noted that the Democratic politician with as much proven crossover appeal as any in the country has done it while making a point of not giving in to the resegregators and transphobes.

I can't think of a faster way to undermine the country than simultaneously firing government workers, cutting scientific research, rolling back protections on public health & environment, & cutting essential services. It's like the US was defeated in war and is being occupied by a hostile enemy.

Every single Democratic governor and attorney general needs to do this -- if only to make it clear to voters *right now* that the firings and funding freezes that are about to hurt their states badly are the work of Trump-Musk in Washington.

Get ahead of this now, or get blamed for it later.
Arizona AG Kris Mayes, New Mexico AG Raul Torrez, and Oregon AG Dan Rayfield will begin holding Community Impact Hearings — a national series of townhalls "to hear from the public about the impact of federal firings and DOGE funding freezes across the country."

The first will be in Phoenix March 5.

now would be a good time for liberals to make a massive investment in progressive media. decades of relying on the ny times/wapo/ap/cnn has been a failure and they're now more right-wing than ever. everything is turning into a miniature fox news and liberals dont want to put money into this.

In every single interview I’ve done with international media since Trump took power I’ve been asked: Why are there no mass protests?

There are many reasons, of course, but the utter refusal of the self-proclaimed “fourth estate” to communicate clearly what is happening has to be high on the list.
No matter how preposterous, the Times headlines nearly every Trump story as if it were written by the White House comms team.

i am 100% of the belief that simply forcing take-writers to answer the question "who specifically said this and why are they significant" would result in substantially fewer bad takes circulating in the world
if i ever teach a class on argumentative writing i am going to use these paragraphs as an example of how to NOT write persuasively for an audience.

Again, if you choose to believe this isn't just open, blatant corruption by traitors who are gutting the government for sport, it's the most consequential reorganization of the Federal bureaucracy since, what? The Great Society? The National Security Act of 1947? The end of the spoils system?

There's a new federal agency with explicit oversight authority over every other Federal department, led by a private citizen who is openly using his private enterprises to run it. And he has a level of granular, direct authority over powers of personnel and the purse that's completely unprecedented.

I admit, what I keep coming back to with DOGE is that *even if you take them entirely at their word and agree with their objectives*, it is fucking wild that the largest reorganization of the Federal government in decades is being done by a few Executive Orders with no legislative or public input.

I've been saying this is the goal with education for years.
It's annoying how clearly this is going to play out.

They gut the FAA.
Therefore, the FAA can't do its job well because it was gutted.
Therefore, they say "The FAA sucks, we have to privatize it." which is what Project 2025 wants to do. They're manufacturing the crises for their end goal.

I will say again: The destruction of the CFPB—an agency that has brought in $20 billion over a little more than a decade despite having an annual budget that's less than what DOD has spent so far today—is the clearest sign none of this has anything to do with saving taxpayers money.
"I am preparing this declaration to ensure that the Court is aware of the imminent risk that twelve years’ of critical CFPB records, which belong to the public, will be irretrievably lost and cause serious and sweeping damage unless the Court takes action."
CFPB's former chief technologist issues an urgent warning to the court that several years' worth of sensitive data is about to be destroyed, with damaging consequences

Has it occured to them that one reason voters aren’t biting on the idea that liberal democracy is facing an existential threat is that they find it inconceivable the opposition party would be nattering about fucking egg prices if they really believed that were true?

Everyone should be pointing out what is happening at CFPB. There is zero argument to be made here that this is being done to provide taxpayer value. The agency's budget is minuscule, averaging like $600 million/year, yet it has obtained $20 billion in payments from corporations to Americans
Exclusive | Russell Vought Taking Over as New Acting Head of CFPB
Trump fired the CFPB’s Biden-era leader earlier this week, putting in place Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who froze the agency’s work.

Journalists should be discussing these power grabs in clear terms: this is an administrative coup. Elon Musk is acting outside the law to gut agencies and usurp and centralize as much power as possible in order to concentrate as much wealth as possible. This is a smash-and-grab race to autocracy.
