My publisher’s been very patient. I’m not doing everything I said I’d do to promote this book (out in a few weeks) because I’m an organizer in a city under federal attack. My days are full and emotionally exhausting. Any help getting the word out means a lot. It's a book people need right now.

We are here because policing in the U.S. has been this way for generations. This is why ICE acts with impunity. They know they can act this way.

Popping in for a minute to say that it really sucks that the murder bill passed Congress and ALSO to thank every single person who tried to stop the bill from passing. What you did matters. Finally, I wrote a few words: open.substack.com/pub/prisoncu... - I hope they might offer some encouragement.

Some thoughts on discouragement and also on noticing…

America is beautiful, contradictory, unfinished. I am proud of our country even as we constantly strive to make it better, to protect and deepen our democracy, to fulfill its promise for each and every person who calls it home.

Happy Independence Day. No Kings in America.

Why is everything so dumb
Trump claimed the Biden administration spent $8 million "making mice transgender." The White House tried to back up this number with records of funding for research into cancer, asthma, and HIV, some of which used *transgenic* (genetically modified) mice.
Trump Decried Millions Spent 'Making Mice Transgender.' It Was Cancer and Asthma Research
President Trump falsely claimed that Biden spent $8 million on 'making mice transgender,' but the real research was for human health.

Incarcerated people have more chronic medical conditions than ever

Yet healthcare behind bars is blocked by expensive copays, limited resources, & understaffing – creating a situation in which each year spent in prison takes *2 years* off an individual’s life expectancy

Older people now make up 5x as much of the prison population as they did three decades ago.

Turning prisons into “makeshift nursing homes” is one of the nation’s most wasteful, morally bankrupt experiments to date. And it certainly doesn’t make our communities safer.

Mass incarceration is one of our country's greatest failures—and it's deeply personal to me.

President Biden must use his clemency authority to confront mass incarceration, reunite families, & advance healing.

We must do everything in our power to save lives while we still can.
