My last observations yesterday night were of the Pleiades, M45. I got to extend my previous mosaic version to give the Pleiades, and the gorgeous reflection nebula (light scattered by dust) they produce, a bit more space. Brief thread: 1/ 🧪🔭

It features the lenticular galaxy NGC 1546, a member of the Dorado group of galaxies, about 58 million light years away.

I just wrapped up a productive week working in the collections at the Iziko South African Museum, so in honor of that here’s a mount of a Permian pareiasaur called Bradysaurus that’s on display there. William Anders passed away earlier today. While orbiting with Borman and Lovell, he took the iconic Earthrise photo. No human had ever seen it before.

On the transmission he said "Oh my God, look at that picture over there! It's the Earth coming up. Wow, is that pretty!"
