Hello to those who found me here. I am a particle physicist at CERN working on the @lhcb.bsky.social experiment and on future accelerators. In particular I worry about sustainability.

I'm also chairing the advisory committee of the 12000 CERN users.
Very strong language from the German ministry of science to the EU about funding FCC. 🧐

Reading a preprint that has an indent at the beginning of each section and no indent at the start of a new paragraph. I can't.

I was discussing Wu's non-nomination at @nikhef.bsky.social last week. I did know she wasn't nominated in 1957. But then she got plenty of nominations later. ⚛️

Chien-Shiung Wu shattered one of physics' core assumptions. ⚛️

In 1957, she proved that nature does distinguish between left & right in weak interactions.

Before her, physicists thought mirrors didn't matter in fundamental laws.

She flipped that on its head.🧪

Many people have wondered why the Chien-Shiung Wu never won the Nobel Prize for Physics. New findings from the Nobel archives, exclusively revealed in Physics World, show she was nominated 23 times by 18 different physicists - and yet was still left empty-handed. 🧪⚛️

Situées à seulement 326 millions d'années-lumière (notre banlieue galactique dans l'Univers), voici ARP 142, deux galaxies en interaction dont les effets de marées mutuels les déforment.

Leur forme leur a donné leur nom : le manchot et son œuf

Profoundly sad to read news of Roger Barlow's passing. A great physicist, educator and communicator, who lived by his principles and would share his wisdom with anyone who asked. The world is now a poorer place.

Every unit of sunshine that hits earth is precisely $0.

It’s literally insane that we know that fact and allow a profiteering scheme to tell us that’s not good enough and charge us for an alternative that literally kills us.
