I’m telling you @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social, please watch this. This is the energy. Not egg prices and book tours and strongly worded letters. It’s time to take the gloves off.

I did this. It takes about 20 seconds. Why the hell not?
A quick resistance task:
1. Google Gulf of Mexico
2. “Gulf of America" is the top
3. Click on the three little dots to the right of it
4. Select "Send Feedback"
5. Click on "Gulf Of America"
6. Select "Inaccurate content"
7. Select "Incorrect" and type in "The correct name is “Gulf of Mexico"

1/ For the people who are asking: “Where are the protests?!” There have been many! Much of them organized by immigrants rights groups and leftists. Here’s a thread of some I have found, or know people who have attended. Feel free to add your own.

Okay, well, I pick the one that protects fucking trans kids.

What's infuriating about healthcare in the US, other than everything, is that we've actually never had a "healthcare debate." We had a prolonged health INSURANCE debate - i.e. paying for care - but never a conversation about what care ought to be.

We must refuse to obey unjust laws invented by authoritarians to oppress people and further their aims of having some "other" to shame and blame.

Leadership, as we see here, requires going first to show the way:
Let today’s Capitol Hill bathroom sit-in spark an era of radical defiance. Trans folks refuse to bow to hate and bigotry. We demand dignity and respect. We will fight like our ancestors. We are building with our elders and peers. And trans youth will inherit a better world.

It really is quite touching.

In 2018 Dems elected the largest class to Congress since Watergate, ~60 seats.

A lot of it was, yes, Trump backlash. But the winners also had another thing in common, despite a wide range of differences: most rejected corporate PAC money.

It’s a hugely compelling factor to voters & underdiscussed
I think the Dems need to field gruff corruption busters at all levels whose primary campaign response to culture war issues is “All Americans should enjoy the freedom and bounty of this great country. That won’t be possible so long as venal men impoverish you and loot the country of your wealth”

And it’s the same people from 2016-2020 who are moving the same way. Except now we know that they have no positive effect on politics. None.

So I suppose I was hoping we would try something different. Maybe try being earnest? Try actually helping people who will be targeted by this admin?

We must show visible refusal to comply because the absence of it implies consent. Most folks are reading social cues to understand what is & isn't acceptable & drawing their conclusions from what "common sense" dictates.
I'm still convinced that Trump pushes these atrocious nominees through as part of his power grab. But these fights matter even when they lose. The losses build will.

The real trap here is that the Republicans have made defending civil rights seem like a frivolous thing and a whole lot of liberals are falling in line. Even if it was a culture war, so what? This would be a war worth fighting. What are we even doing here, people? Get it together.
