“While the AI industry claims its models can “think,” “reason,” and “learn,” their supposed achievements rest on marketing hype and stolen intellectual labor. In reality, AI erodes academic freedom, weakens critical reading, and subordinates the pursuit of knowledge to corporate interests.”
AI Is Hollowing Out Higher Education
Olivia Guest & Iris van Rooij urge teachers and scholars to reject tools that commodify learning, deskill students, and promote illiteracy.

These hoodies are sewn using a double needle coverstitch for durability, but the underarm and side seams are sewn using a flatlock seam. This produces a smoother, flatter seam, removing the bump that can rub against the body.

Paul at IG toofbush explains the flatlock seam below.

Remember: If we allow ourselves to fall into fatalism, or wallow in disappointment, or become resigned to what is rather than what should be, we will lose the long game.

The greatest enemy of positive social change is cynicism about what can be changed.

There’s a viral claim that no Moms for Liberty–endorsed candidates won “contested” school-board races this week. That claim is false. Not many wins, but not zero.

A short 🧵 on how selective wording can turn misinformation into something that sounds true.

I've been having friendly and open "Why I dislike AI in most cases" conversations with friends and neighbors and it's surprising to me how much misunderstanding there is
"But you use speech-to-text, isn't that AI?"
"Not with this iOS it isn't."

I'm going to have a lot more to say about this total bullshit claim by JD Vance, but just for now:

The state with the highest union density in the US is Hawaii, where multiracial unionism is a deep and abiding tradition.
JD Vance claims that diversity weakens unions, as people end up distrusting each other and not organizing.

Let me tell you two menswear stories related to this claim. 🧵

the conversation we should be having is that AI is developing and will certainly displace many workers, and we should develop government programs to even out the losses and gains between workers and capitalists. but instead we argue about whether a trans person was on netflix

I actually gasped. As a former public health reporter the MMWR is a big deal
The editors of the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) were apparently fired today.

The precursor to MMWR began in 1878 to address emerging public health threats rapidly.

We are not “great” without it. We are vulnerable to threats from sporadic foodborne illness to bioterrorism.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.
