Hello I'm Jessamyn #librarian owner of librarian.net and a few other websites you might know. New pinned post for Spring.

My reading list jessamyn.info/booklist

I work for the Flickr Foundation and do a lot of #Vermont and library civics stuff. Hello!
The medium is the message. Book Riot's reporting of the Youth Media Award winners is legible, clear, and has links to all the titles (on Amazon, no one's perfect). I tried three different library association award lists and none had all three. Enjoy this list. Buy some good books. Thank you, Kelly.

"Starting today through Valentine’s Day, e-book and audiobook copies of Heated Rivalry... and all five other books in the Game Changers series are immediately available (no wait!) to anyone with an NYPL library card."

Well played, NYPL 🏒💜

Skybrarians: My local mutual aid group is buying an ad in the paper for a February Reads section. I need a slogan/concept not overtly political but which will make a sharp point about ignorance, libraries, maybe fascism. Along the lines of "Books are weapons in the war of ideas" but not that. Ideas?

Librarians, how many times have you heard the "This library has so many books, it's sinking" lore? As much as I love to hear that people are cancelling bloated subscriptions, I have to laugh at the AI-powered "learning experience" shift Microsoft thinks it can seamlessly perform. They'll be back.

"Almost all the infrastructure we now use to find, access, and read books in virtual environments... has existed for two decades. So why are the vast majority of digitized books still inaccessible on the web?"

Monica Westin says it doesn't need to be this way.

I braved the supermarket today because

1. I needed a lemon for my lemon pig
2. I always enjoy getting flowers and walking across the frozen slushy mess of a parking lot in my idgaf snow gear cradling three bouquets of flowers in my elbow like Miss Crampon America

One of our Vermont library directors is retiring in 2026 and the local paper wrote such a sweet article about her that really captures her personality and mood. I will miss being colleagues with Starr LaTronica.

I love a most borrowed list! www.nypl.org/spotlight/to... NYC library users are a quirky bunch--and maybe not much in common with the NYT bestsellers list. Solidarity with my fellow thrifties who don't need to own books. 📚

We library folk do a good job talking about all the free services we offer, but I don’t see many of us talking about how libraries are one or the only places where you can use services without being advertised to.

A delightful interview that @andrewliptak.com did with @scalzi.com when he came to VT.

"When Old Man's War took off and they were like, "you have to write more novels." And I was like, "Do I?" They're like, "yes, here's money," and I was like, "I guess I do." And then off we were to the races."
Me talking about writing and my career and how book censoring and white supremacy both suck a lot and also how I got my side gig as the DJ to the nerds
Earlier this fall I interviewed @scalzi.com at the Green Mountain Book Festival, and we spoke about his career writing and the state of science fiction in 2025.

I live in a part of the country where people go at Xmas like it's their job and good on them for trying to scrape up some joy.

It's not my holiday, but I do sponsor a kid-drawing in the newspaper's holiday section with a nice "we're in this together" message, but I do have stipulations. #grinch.
