Y'know... I have a lot of Christmas cartoons in the Larchives. I should probably post more like I did at Hallowe'en?

Horror isn’t normally a genre I gravitate toward, but @alanbaxter.bsky.social is an outstanding guy, and I’m looking forward to sinking my teefs into this 😊 Thank you, Mr Baxter!

Lemme guess the big two: Fonterror/French-fuckers, and supermarket duopoly.

Am I right?

Whelp. Huge thunderclap that sounded like it was almost right on top of the house just happened.

I think a little bit of poo might have just come out.

That said, I love a good thunderstorm.

It's that giving time of year again, so this is a reminder that no matter how they try to dress it up, the Salvation Army is not a charity.

When I first read this I was all like “LOL”. Then immediately wondered if it’s some hoax AI bullshit or something. I hate that small moments of happiness now have to be tempered with suspicion. Such is the world we now live in. Hope Lebanon doesn’t comply if this is real.
Genuinely hilarious. Please send it to China.

It's time to vote again! This time, there's a shortlist of 40 amazing native plants which are contenders for NZ's favourite native plant. OK, some of the contenders are a little obscure, but who couldn't love a rebel forget-me-not!
Voting links here. You don't need to be in New Zealand.

Double ducks west of Mallacoota, East Gippsland, VIC. Didn't see a lot of large duck orchids (Caleana major) on my couple of brief East Gippsland trips this year but did see scattered plants in full flight at a couple of locations. #orchids #inthefield #ozplants

Bit of a milestone yesterday. 30th anniversary with the husband - 30 years together, 20 of those civil-unioned/married.

More than half my lifetime. Now I feel old :-P

He's a lovely bloke, well worth being married to <3

Olms (Proteus anguinus) look like you took an axolotl & stretched them out. 'Dachshund axolotls', if you will.

They're a cave-dwelling salamander that live deep under the Alps of Central Europe. When floods flushed them out to streams, they were described as 'baby dragons'.

And they lack eyes...

Nobody asked, but:

I think the biggest pitfall of sci-fi/fantasy storytelling, especially for worldbuilders, in the infodump.

You're (rightfully) just so proud of all the work you put into creating a cohesive setting that you just wanna PUKE it all over readers/watchers on page one.

This is a great analogy.
Someone recently compared AI to asbestos: useful in controlled scientific environments, but hyped as something that needed to be inside every home and business.
