A few weeks ago I was talking politics with a local, highly straight, bartender.
All the sudden he said: “Well, I think a big part of the problem is that so many of the people who would’ve been our progressive leaders died of AIDS & can’t help us now.”
And I’ve thought about that every day since.

Pretty sure bsky image compression will absolutely cook this, but I got really into plant phylogeny for the past few years and made a phylogenetic tree with basically every commonly known seed plant on it. Will be breaking it up into legible chunks in the replies if you would like to check it out

The absolute worst part about having just had surgery for me (aside from the pain) is that it’s starting to get cold and I can’t take a bath. That’s like, 90% of what I want to do when I’m cold!

Both recipes involved assembling and toasting blends of whole spices and resulted in absolutely mindblowing flavors. 100% worth it
Last night I made a Sri Lankan chicken curry (Kukul Mas Maluwa, recipe from NYT) and Bengali-spiced green beans (Panchphoran Green Beans, recipe from Serious Eats) and they were both absolutely amazing. No pics bc I suck.

Currently drinking a Leeward Negroni with Kota pandan liqueur in it. (Took a while bc I had to coconut-wash some Campari first.) It truly is a perfect cocktail.
I just got my hands on a new-to-me pandan liqueur named Kota and it’s the real deal! It captures the partly vegetal, partly comforting-custardy-spices profile of pandan *perfectly*. I need to try it in a Leeward Negroni ASAP

I really wanted pandan and passion fruit to work together, but the first time I tried it, they *really* didn’t. Then I found this recipe for a passion fruit colada with pandan, passion fruit, and coconut and that, it turns out, is the magical combination. Super sippable and fucking delicious.

I had a pretty minor surgery yesterday and I have since rediscovered how much it sucks being in pain all the time. I don’t like it! Not one little bit!!!
