Public service notice: Wilson's try to charge penalties for car parks. They *cannot enforce this*. They will also try to force you to use an online portal instead of emailing a human being. More from Consumer here:

I know a lot has been written about the fast track bill already but I’m a visual person so I tried to draw up the power and the process in this explainer - like I would on a whiteboard - & made it so the diagram text is readable on mobile. #nzpol www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...
The unprecedented power the government is handing three of its ministers under its new Fast Track Approval Bill
What is the Fast Track Approval Bill and why do experts say it's a step beyond even the Muldoon era?

This may be the most important piece of journalism in the entire pandemic. Brilliant detective work by scientists; compellingly told.

The 60-Year-Old Scientific Screwup That Helped Covid Kill
All pandemic long, scientists brawled over how the virus spreads. Droplets! No, aerosols! At the heart of the fight was a teensy error with huge consequences.

I think most people and institutions still hold a belief (consciously or not) that harassment happens when someone does something ‘controversial’.

That allows everyone (except the victim) to minimise it, because maybe on some level it was self-inflicted or deserved when they got their hands dirty.

The cat comes on walks with us and is delighted by the baby’s slow, chaotic pace. Lots of opportunities to just flop down on the sidewalk here and there without falling behind. Big fans of fall, both of these guys.

You do not need an EasyVote Card to vote.

You do not even need to be enrolled and you do not need to take identification with you when you go to vote.

If you are a NZer over the age of 18, just show up to a polling booth and you will be able to vote.

Pass it on.

I'm no big-city economist (and especially not the single big-city economist National pays to tell them their numbers are good, actually), but if you plan to save $2 billion in welfare payments, it probably means welfare recipients will be worse off to the tune of $2 billion.

A reminder once again that Bluesky WILL NOT promote bad actors onto people's timelines because there's no centralized algorithm. If you want to prevent bigots from spreading their hate, REPORT, BLOCK, MOVE ON.

Do not reply to them. Do not quote them. Do not screenshot them. Cut off their exposure.
