They absolutely will and do give people the choice of converting from their queer and secular identities or die on the street. They don't want to help people, they're missionaries. All they want is fewer queers and more Christians and they're willing to kill us to make that happen.
Donate to your local food bank instead.
I know it's a tad early but I know those bitches with the buckets will be out soon. Don't gove them a penny. The volunteers may not know but the salvation army is no ally and actively combative and harmful to many queer minorities especially during the holiday season
