A heck of a chart: in every single one of the 10 major US cities that built the most housing between 2017 and 2023, rents for older, existing units fell—often by quite a bit.

Since this wuss can't bother to open up- no, this is not true, and I do not mean "It is not the most accurate phrasing of a statement", I mean that it is a lie. The Nazis were, at best, inspired by reading about Westward Expansion in the form of trashy translated paperbacks.

An alternate way to think about 'idiotperialism' is that it is actually just gender-affirming-foreign-policy-care for a bunch of overgrown man-babies worried about how people will perceive the size of their own little MANPADs unless they go do some manly war stuff.
We frankly need a term for these neo-imperialist dreams that fail to take into account that it isn't 1600 and so end up throwing away a million lives and all the tanks seizing some farms in Ukraine, or wasting time with Venezuelan oil.

I propose 'Idiotperialism.'

The Venezuela attack is about getting oil the same way that rape is about getting laid
The amount of “this is clearly about oil” posting across all platforms as story after story comes out where the oil industry is saying that the oil isn’t worth extracting is making me feel a little insane

If the oil companies aren't actually on board, then the real reason this happened is that Trump and Hegseth were getting bored not using all their cool weapons, and Rubio steered them toward a target he liked (Latin American leftists) as opposed to one he didn't (Greenland)
Trump is trying to strongarm the oil industry into supporting his war and they're like this deal sucks

it's exactly the other way around from the "war for oil" theory lol

I hesitate to attribute strategy to Trump campaigns but, to the extent there was a method to the madness, he catered to the anti-interventionist right *and* took advantage of perennial leftist credulity on foreign policy, where they regard Dems as "just as bad as Republicans."
"even if doing so strains the anti-interventionist identity once central to his political brand."

He was never an "anti-interventionist" and people writing things like this are at great risk of being scammed by the wallet inspector.
Once a critic of overseas entanglements, President Trump now appears willing to embrace regime change as a tool of American influence, raising questions about whether his “America First” doctrine is being redefined.

There's not a lot online that pisses me off more than the pop leftist simplification of Marx's thought to 'capitalism bad'. Thing is, there were actual 'capitalism bad' people back then, but a lot of them were reactionary nostalgics for feudalism and many of them were bitterly antisemitic

It makes no sense in pop politics world view of “socialism is when the government does things, capitalism is when the market does things”, but a regulation which protects rentier landlords is as unsocialist as a market which exploits workers

It's striking that progressives like Tim Walz and Zohran Mamdani evoke the middle American attitude that, "Yes, we can fix these social problems because we're Americans and it's the right thing to do!" While the "America first" right only emulates failed and failing nation-states elsewhere.

The problem with a lot of DemSoc echoes of Bernie is they don't respect much of the center-left coalition and, generally, are bad at politics. Mamdani has essentially rejected this and despite the DSA tag, is operating as an old school New Deal Dem as *any honest and earnest* urban Democrat would.
I think people are underestimating how much Mamdani, even more so than your average elected leftist, see it as his top priority to not be seen as a failed mayor. He is not going to be another Brandon Johnson, I’d wager

There is still no data showing that Waymo trips are replacing car trips.

If they’re replacing walking, biking, and bus, crashes are going up!
Interesting data (from Waymo) showing that robotaxis are significantly safer than the average human driver. This is likely because they respect traffic rules. An NYT op-ed by a neurosurgeon calls for a broader adoption as a public health measure. Thoughts? www.nytimes.com/2025/12/02/o...

A lot of Blueskiers are going to dismiss this observation because of the source, but it is correct. I'll just add that I don't think there's anything special about single-family homes that means they should never be rentals, any more than there's a rule that multifamily units should never be condos.

housing with a poor quality of life

housing that is not meant to be lived in long term

we should change that
