Nazis were already very unpopular in the US before Pearl Harbor; what the attack changed was the public's opinion about whether to get directly involved in the war as opposed to only supporting the Allies with materiel.

In the very first game there's a cross on Link's shield and on the cover of the magic book item, and the second game had a cross item that lets you see invisible enemies. They quietly dropped the crosses in all the later games though.

I haven't read the book, but this sounds like it's more about adapting Ashkenazi cuisine to locally-grown ingredients rather than learning Levantine cooking?
