Hydroelectric is one of the most underutilized and under-discussed options for combating climate change. Every river should be dammed. Fish ladders can be added to preserve biodiversity.

Look bringing back polio sounds bad. But it’s a small price to pay to get rid of pronouns in email signatures and black women in star wars.

One of the last effects to wear off after a trip to space is psychological. Several astronauts returning from the ISS have reported that months afterwards, they still occasionally let go of an object in mid-air, and are surprised when it drops to the floor rather than floats.

Proof we live in a shaded oligarchy.
We shouldn’t accept that a CEO killer must get a national manhunt when cops don’t solve most murders at all. A migrant teenager was just murdered in NYC, cops just killed a guy here — the lives of these other people are worth just as much as that CEO.

star wars did give us a slur for robots (clankers) but i don’t use it bc i don’t want to have to look a robot in the eye in fifty years and be like “you don’t understand it was a different time…”

Time between exposure and symptoms:

Campylobacter: 2-6 days
E. coli: 2-5 days
Salmonella: 6 hrs-6 days
Norovirus: 12-48 hrs
Shigella: 1-3 days
Staph aureus: fast
Listeria: 9-48 hrs

“They matter” - well sure, but what a valid statement.

The fact is that some fields produce great benefits for society and some only produce personal satisfaction. I think it makes sense to celebrate the fields that actually advance society.
I keep trying to write something eloquent and just being tired.
History matters. Philosophy matters. Languages and literature matter. Indigenous studies matter. Arts and humanities and social sciences matter. All of them.
