This is one of my worst fears
His Christian right base thinks he’s anointed by God;
They were his bulwark against impeachment, they believe his stolen election lies;
He needs them for votes and to remain in office;
He will do what they want and let them do what they want, which is rule the rest of us according to “biblical law.”

America did a lot of terrible stuff to Dr. King, like jailing and abusing him and trying to get him to kill himself and killing him, but probably nothing so obscene as reinventing him in popular memory as some milquetoast whose primary concern was not hurting white people’s feelings.
