The news moves on, but the lives of Jamaicans are still very difficult. Every bit helps (shares cost nothing but can be incredibly helpful).

I am currently reading 'Hild', a fabulous novel by @nicolaz.bsky.social that explores her early life, immersing the curious reader in the rhythms of 7th century life. Would heartily recommend it to anyone curious about Hild and her achievements.

Possibly one for @greenleejw.bsky.social but really for anyone who feels like a bit of C14 French palaeography, what's the last word on the top line? "Item le tiers de la huche ? anguilles dudit vivier." I'd have expected "aux" but it's... not. What other word could link eels with their reservoir? 😂

This is a very good article which emphasises the interconnectedness of ecosystems. And yet the editor has chosen to focus on bees for the headline. Anti-pesticide petitions do the same. Yes, bees are very important, but they're one part of a much bigger picture.

UNESCO has launched an impressive Virtual Museum of Stolen Cultural Objects - an immersive digital space that brings together over 240 stolen and missing cultural objects in 2D and 3D from 50+ countries — and the voices of the communities they were taken from.

those of us laid off from Teen Vogue were really fortunate to complete our fundraising goal — the laid-off staffers at VIBE deserve the same support, as Black media outlets and journalists continue to be targeted and discriminated against in “austerity” measures
It was announced on October 16, 2025 that VIBE was "joining forces" with Rolling Stone. As a result, the majority of VIBE employees were laid off. If you have the means to give, this team could use the support! www.gofundme.com/f/support-vi...

Look at this excellent handkerchief from 1769 at the V & A museum: a showcase for #18thc practices of remediation. Made to imitate a quodlibet/medley print, a genre that itself aims to simulate, in a trompe l'oeil idiom, a scatter of small printed papers.
Imagine blowing your nose on that!

In 1582, a papal bull introduced the Gregorian calendar, still used today by most of the world. Because it’s 11 days ahead of the Julian calendar, countries introducing it simply skipped a third of October, and if you scroll back far enough in the iPhone calendar app you can see it change

a big runoff last night, in New Orleans:

Calvin Duncan was exonerated after spending *28 years* in prison; he tried to get his own case records from the New Orleans city clerk—but the office dragged its feet.

So Duncan ran to become city clerk himself, and yesterday ousted the incumbent.
