It genuinely astounds me that “Dan Quayle can’t spell potato” was such a thing, but the current president goes on TV daily and says shit that would be genuinely embarrassingly stupid coming from a 7th grader.

hearing shit like this is crazy because if you've ever been unemployed long-term or have been close to someone who has been it's just a miserable and sad way to live and nobody actually wants to live like this
Trump claims that food stamps "puts the country in jeopardy. People that are able-bodied can do a job, they leave their job because they figure they can pick this up, it's easier."

The problem is that the huge chunk of the country views this as a plus for some stupid reason
"The people I spoke to in Europe who asked me where I was from sometimes perked up—probably imagining America's former reputation and its influence on culture—but they often looked upon me with sympathy. What a terrible thing you're experiencing. The world is learning to live without us."

My other questions are:
1) Why were the subsidies added as temporary anyway and
2) Are the Republicans acknowledging that this is going to cause premiums skyrocket for millions, but betting it won’t affect enough of their own voters to matter?
Has there ever been someone who said “I would rather pay medical bills directly with cash than pay them through an insurer?”

I’m trying to imagine who this is supposed to appeal to

The one actual helpful use I’ve found for LLMs is to act as a suggestion generator and sounding board for translation. Which, it’s a language tool based on averages, so that’s kind of a great spot for it.

It blows my mind that anyone at all uses it as a knowledge tool or to handle communication.
I honestly don’t get the value of this company. They hoover up energy and water. Their product constantly gets things wrong and, in extreme cases, coaches people into suicide.

And it’s all built on what seems to be malicious and vast intellectual property theft.

What does OpenAI offer the world?
“authors & publishers who filed a lawsuit against the Sam Altman-led firm have secured access to internal Slack messages… discussing the mass deletion of a pirated books dataset… A NY district court ordered OpenAI to hand over the communications regarding data deletion”

It‘s only on here that I’ve learned that ”lib biblical literalism” is a thing. This morning saw someone arguing that the “neither Greek nor Jew” line meant Paul taught our bodies would be totally sexless in heaven and big bad Tertullian is the reason no one thinks that now.

Jamelle’s takes here are great, but I keep seeing comments popping up to the effect of “erm the existence of the senate is itself bad” and … that‘s bascially just an argument for abolishing the entire Constitution.
the thing about this is that a) small states do not have any interests that are inherent to their size (no less than james madison understood this) b) the senate is organized along party lines which makes the small/big distinction almost irrelevant and c) the filibuster has never been used this way
Underrated aspect of killing the filibuster is making pundit hacks at Cook Political p-p-p-piss their pants

I can theoretically imagine a good-faith objection to singling out the accomplishments of Black soldiers in some contexts, but the context here is that the US ARMY WAS SEGREGATED.
Two panels commemorating the contribution of Black American soldiers towards the liberation of the Netherlands in World War Two have been quietly removed from a cemetery in Limburg. It follows a complaint by right-wing think tank The Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission.

Can’t stress enough that Hungary is relatively poor kleptocracy.
incredible that these guys have a massive hard on for a country that, if it were a state, would rank behind kansas in terms of wealth and which would be a total backwater if it weren’t economically integrated with more functional countries

Probably should have said philosophy rather than theology, but either way. Also do these people claim that nothing outside of physical phenomena is really real, or just that the individual’s mind is fully embodied?
Thomism/theology knowers: Is physicalism (all that happens in the mind happens in the brain) the same as the idea that the material is all there is, or is it merely a rejection of Cartesian dualism?
