Still laughing about buying sandals with velcro accidentally because I didn't know what "hook and loop closures" meant.

It's funny (sad) how humanities degrees are so discredited, but this little English and Mass Communication degree holder is doing pretty well for herself managing training and internal comms at a library. Between the federal government and Utah legislature, I'm very nervous for higher ed.

The book I've feared would show up on a banned list, Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, is being removed from Jordan School District. The story involves sexual assault, which teenagers should be allowed to learn about through literature. Please consider filling out this film in support of the book.

I think it's odd the Utah Shakespeare Festival switched to doing the same play every Saturday night throughout the summer, instead of alternating the Saturday show. Now if there's a play you want to see that's not the Saturday show, you have to miss one to two days of work to get to it.

More disturbing stories about the detention centres. Among them, there was a couple in Canada taking selfies at the Peace Arch border. They accidentally strayed across the boundary and were taken into custody.

It is always interesting to watch people who are not used to public transit etiquette attempt to board a train. Just an absolute stand still of refusing to step out of the way and risk not getting on first, so folks on the train can’t get out the doors.

Libraries are literal lifelines for millions of Americans and the fact that the New York Times thinks there’s something “obscure” about the agency that directly funds public access to research databases, interlibrary loan, and rural broadband internet access is a huge part of how we got here.

🚨NEW🚨: Donald Trump is attempting to strip away federal support for libraries. We will NOT let that happen.

Last night the President signed an order to gut the Institute of Museum & Library Services. But together, we know we can show up & defeat it.

This was exciting news to wake up to. Reading a list of “obscure” agencies as the New York Times put it, and finding IMLS on the list. 🤦🏻‍♀️
In a new executive order, Trump has targeted the federal agency charged with distributing congressionally approved funds to state libraries and to library, museum, and archives program grant recipients.

Thinking about the time a back specialist did a few movement tests on me, then said "I believe you that your back hurts, but there's nothing wrong with it." When I can barely twist or bend or pick things up withing feeling a twinge in a way that tells me if I'm not careful I will throw my back out.

If two stadiums happen on North Temple, let alone one stadium, I don't know how I will get in and out of my neighborhood on game days. This should be tied to a TRAX line on Redwood or other major improvements to our transit options. (And you know, efforts to cleanup the Jordan River Parkway.)
A late session bill headed to committee tomorrow would increase stadium options within the Fairpark District, which is already the preferred site for an MLB stadium.

The proposed language offers some clues into the possibilities #utpol:

Really telling how unprepared our media is to meet this moment that every outlet doesn’t have headlines blaring that Trump n Musk just did the largest layoff in history, with stories like this & analysis of the economic effects of suddenly firing the equivalent of the entire pop of Salt Lake City
This comment on r/fednews really stood out to me. Trump and Musk want people to think they're firing do-nothing "bureaucrats," but they're really getting rid of people dedicated to serving this country and keeping it operational. I hope these stories get told.

As a local government employee, this thread is making me laugh so I don’t cry.
not trying to pick on this guy. this just reminded me that the federal government does not provide coffee to workers. to drink coffee at a federal office you generally have to pay into a "coffee club" that is managed by a staffer who volunteers to collect money and purchase a monthly coffee supply.
