When you hurt people by shutting down the government, you owe it to thoss people to make that pain mean something. You harden your heart and play to win or you do not play at all

Playing and giving up halfway through, when the damage is done but nothing is achieved, is rank betrayal

Two things that make this video different from the pandering performative gestures we're all used to:

1. He already won. He doesn't have to do this anymore

2. This video centers a community organization and the good work they do, then promises that city hall will help them do it
Combatting poverty and hunger in this city will take every single one of us. Myself included.

The origins are F'd up, but its purpose was noble both then and now. Lincoln made it a holiday during a time of unprecedented crisis to remind us all to be thankful for what we have because everything was so freaking sh*tty.

I consider this a similar Thanksgiving.

Happy Turkeyday!

I don't know a single family, on the left or on the right, that sits around the table talking about the origins of Thanksgiving. It's a day to feast and be with family, chosen or otherwise, and reflect on the good things in our lives

That's a good holiday

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate🦃

this has been on my mind all year because irrespective of intent, this is how the mid-level of news was absolutely hollowed out. and most people i know in this line of work have endured financial hell so often and so many times

even if the third thing pauses, the anxiety does not, it's damaging
If you're ever wondered why journalists seem so out of touch most of the time it's because in order to establish yourself you need to either come from money, marry into money, or be OK with abject poverty and daily financial panic

That third thing is unsustainable long-term

This is one of those things that rarely gets talked about that has had a massive effect.

As fields like journalism, art, and academia were collapsed and living expenses skyrocketed they came to skew increasingly toward people whose families could afford to supplement their income.

The Trump/Mamdani meeting is a great test for pundits, amateur and professional alike, because anyone who says they saw that coming is lying, I'm so sorry. That's someone who can't admit they were wrong and needs the world to believe they can predict the future. Hard pass

It is currently mid-afternoon and I have accomplished more today than I have in the past week. I'm not even tired, I'm gonna keep working. Holy shit.
A week ago I learned that my B12 levels are like....catastrophically low. They gave me an injection and said I'd probably feel a lot less depressed and foggy soon

Yesterday, for the first time in months, I woke up and was happy to be awake. Like it could be potentially fun to do things, even

When people say, "you wouldn't want a 'purple haired gender studies major' in the Marines" I reply "YES we desperately needed them!" We had teams of anthropologists who published studies for us.
