I wholeheartedly believe that at least some democrats would vote for cloture just to be “bipartisan.” They have no courage, no conviction.
I don’t believe in the death penalty for violent crimes, but I do believe in it for people who play their music or whatever on the bus without headphones.

I live by SU & I love you clowning on the podcasting program, but you missed something important: 2 weeks earlier, they paused African American Studies.

Fun fact! The reason these pirates were working on Labor Day is because “Labor Day” is a distinctly US/Canadian phenomenon, born, at least in part, of Grover Cleveland’s desire to legitimize a “let’s have a parade!” holiday and obscure a “never forget the Haymarket martyrs; keep fighting” holiday.
Happy Dickfuck Day!!!

And also happy No One Remembers That Jim Speaks Spanish Even Though We Found Out In A Shocking Way 4 Hours Ago Day to those who celebrate!

Happy Labor Day to all who celebrate, and a miserable Labor Day to those who don't, because people who hate labor don't deserve nice things.

“That's 40 *cents*. Cents are a form of currency one hundred times smaller than the reál. I'm not even going to take this. Come back when you have 130 reál.”

Isn't it... evil? The order of magnitude between what is asked of a person -- and what they have?

I love NPR, and I especially love 1A, but good grief… I need @ifbookspod.bsky.social to do a deep dive on this. Just in the last week I’ve heard 3 episodes that made me yell - including right now, the Aspen panel on optimism. I want to shake the panelists and scream, “PESSIMISM IS ACTIONABLE!!!”

Hi authors! Please remember to file a claim!
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

I am absolutely furious that @brennanleemulligan.bsky.social, depicter of Bud Cubby and Robert Moses, set @dimension20.bsky.social Never Stop Blowing Up in the *80s* but didn’t include Ronald Reagan. Why are you giving us these vague action movie villains rather than the Biggest Bad of All Time???

People who think the United States isn't depraved enough to rehabilitate sexual predator Ghislaine Maxell forget how quickly the United States rehabilitated sexual predator Donald Trump. We are not a moral country; we are a country of shameless opportunism.

Scary: Kalina
Terrifying to my very core: watching these people in late 2019 / early 2020 sit together in that tiny dome and cough.
We’ve seen it before, but she wanted to rewatch the season about the cat. Who am I to refuse?

30 years ago, we did. They were called "local newspapers."

Then the Telecom Act of 1996 allowed essentially unlimited corporate consolidation of media outlets and they killed off local news in the space of a single generation.
Imagine if we had a newsroom in every county that focused on municipal meetings.
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but if you’re thinking of starting a newsroom in your community, you should do it.

But none of us could get a fucking covid test, because Trump’s ego was too hung up on pretending everything was fine, even though we had all been exposed to international travelers from Italy two weeks before we all got so horrendously sick.

Covid was already circulating in the US population in January of 2020. I know because I had it, and so did all my coworkers at once. It took until March for the government to admit it was here and allow people to get tested at all.

Seems like a good time to remind folks that Trump fired the Pandemic Response Team, whose job was early detection of pandemic potential and swift control to prevent pandemics, if at all possible, in 2018.

And then ALSO bungled the response by suppressing testing & quarantine to put the lid back on.

Not to mention that it’s endemic now. Not only did he not put a lid on then, but now we probably never can. This disease could be with us for thousands of years, and I will blame every one of those deaths on Donald Trump. May my grandchildren’s grandchildren’s grandchildren spit on his grave.
To say that Trump is responsible for tens of thousands of deaths is not an exaggeration; it’s a deep understatement.

There was a moment when we could’ve put a lid on Covid. Other than the first, idk, 10(?), people who had recently been in China, I blame him for ALL of those deaths. Well over 1M.
I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that Trump and RFK Jr. are _personally_ responsible for tens of thousands of deaths even before this administration.

They'll keep on killing.
