Should the news media 'love America'? Here's how.
Not the way CBS News seems to have in mind

News organizations should “love America” by doing their jobs. Great piece by @sulliview.bsky.social, a response to CBS’s vacuous “five simple principles.”

The brilliant @sulliview.bsky.social gets at *exactly* what bothered me so much about CBS Evening News declaring "We love America” as a guiding principle.
"Journalists and their news orgs can show their patriotism by doing their jobs of seeking the truth, no matter who it offends. They can serve the public by reporting honestly & deeply on what their government is up to and why even if that means they lose access or get sued."

Your occasional reminder that Trump is the most unpopular president in modern (post-WWII) times.

He's underwater in 40 states with the remaining ten representing only 59 of the total 538 electoral votes (!)

If only media would preface and frame their POTUS coverage with these telling data.

Any left-leaning by front-line journalists is outweighed by owners and top execs of news outlets who lean right. You see this in their investment in business news vs. coverage of the environment and poverty, and in many other ways. It adds up to an over-all media picture that is NOT LIBERAL. 7/10 🧵

credulous pieces that maybe just maybe censoring news was a good idea. What?!

But this from @sulliview.bsky.social is spot on. If she says you screwed up, you screwed up. Bari, take note.
