It’s really hard to believe, but somehow in 96 hours Democrats managed to piss away all the momentum they had built Thursday. It’s a GOP wet dream.

not trying to write a thinkpiece or anything, but this is basically all I did all four years of college—read a book per week in each history or lit class (so, for me, that often meant 4-5 books/week), participate in a 2- or 3-hour seminar once a week, and write longass research papers on my own time
Important update from two months into my “experiment” (lol) assigning college juniors and seniors to read whole physical books and then having a seminar where they use the physical book and physical notebooks and their ideas and questions to fill three hours of class time:
It rules

When ICE comes to Philly it’s going to be brutal
Portland resists with whimsical improv theater, Chicago resists by screaming at weird jagoffs that don’t belong in the neighborhood. Every city brings its own strengths to the fight

Sometimes I read an article just to see how Trump is being covered. This one did not disappoint.

The US president’s reversal was as capricious as his original plan. What if local billionaires had urged him to stick with it?

I'm in Raleigh, NC for a few days settling up affairs for my recently deceased mother-in-law. She gets a print subscription to the News & Observer. One syndicated NO KINGS story on page two (less than 1 column of ink). What a joke. I will take a large amount of joy cancelling her subscription.

I’m pretty sure this is the plot from The Diary of Anne Frank.
My first thought was “wow I hope this guy didn’t give out his name because he could absolutely be charged” and yup, he is correct to stay anonymous.
This man’s account is shocking. His neighbors’ situation is shocking. The entire Chicago raid is shocking.

Good for her (I’m assuming her anyway). Also why the fuck would “marriage material” ever be some kind of judgement measure?
When I was about 20, a much older male colleague called me "not marriage material". I'm celebrating my tenth wedding anniversary this week with my absolute gem of a husband. I'd stalk the twat on socials to feel smug but I can't even remember a first name. Unremarkable loser.

Mass shootings in the US have become so commonplace that they just get bundled together into one news story now. I wonder if that means the Onion will publish its "nothing can be done says only country in the world with this problem" story once or three times. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

This seems like an odd strategy. You still have a cunt boss, but now they are bitter and have tons of time on their hands to make your work life miserable. Maybe reporting them to someone else in HR would have gotten them fired and out of your hair.
Our good boss got moved to another branch and replaced with a cunt. After 6 months we found out he was having an affair with one of the women in HR. A group of us got together and sent an anonymous message to his spouse. His marriage collapsed and he lost access to his kids.

As CNN offers daylong saturation coverage of the podcaster’s funeral, I went back and checked to see how CNN covered Melissa Hortman’s memorial on 6/28, where Walz spoke and Biden/Harris attended.
It got about four minutes during the hours it was happening—less than Jeff Bezos’s wedding that day.

Best part of being an Uncle is not having to think through the long-term impact of my actions. Taught the 2 year old to bang on the table and chant "Where is the food?" at McDonald's. About to throw him back at his mam and dad like a grenade.
