As we always say, debt had long been used by the powerful as
1) a source of profit
2) a tool of racial domination
3) a mechanism of social control
The reason they make it so difficult to get out of student debt, out of medical debt, out of rent, out of your auto loan, out of your mortgage — is because the more you owe, the more of your income that goes to paying off debt, the more docile you are. Debt is a discipline.

depressing to read polls suggesting that even amongst those who disagree with Trump, the one issue there is some support for is his fascistic immigration policy. border imperialism is so normalized amongst liberals - and even some radicals. stop believing migrants are your enemy, blame billionaires!

Among the material devastation to everyday people, Senate Dems have now blown a hole in their ability to work with the House.

We had an agreed upon plan, House took immense risk, then Senate turned around midway and destroyed it w/ a fear-based, inexplicable abdication.

They own what happens next.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

Greatly looking forward to this book!
Very excited to share that this beautiful little volume of poems by the late, visionary Essex Hemphill, which I co-edited with the brilliant Robert Reid-Pharr & for which he wrote the introduction & I the afterword, will be out next week (March 5) from New Directions!

I just wish that we actually cared about antisemitism in this country. But instead yall had congressional hearings vilifying students and faculty (of all races & ethnicities) protesting genocide and silence with actual sieg heiling by white suprmacists.

Any university that voluntarily shutters a DEI program, office or personnel “Because of Trumps Executive Order” is making a PR decision. Not a legal one.

Trumps EO does not change anti discrimination law. If anything, the EO is unlawful.

Universities should treat it that way.

This matters. Not because I think Trump is capable of mercy or empathy towards these vulnerable groups. But because it is a public act of defiance.

Contrast that with all these other powerful people in this country signaling nothing but appeasement and obedience.
Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde to Trump: "I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender people in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives ... and the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals"

This bill requires mandatory detention for undocumented individuals arrested or charged with theft or burglary offenses, even before a conviction. This contradicts our fundamental presumption of innocence and due process rights that protect all persons within U.S. jurisdiction. (2/5)

Kudos for the inclusion of @msolurin.bsky.social vs. Mayor Adams.
