Interesting little update on the Trump "Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education," a clumsily-drafted suicide pact for higher education.

Can you believe MIT passed up the chance to be on this list

This succinct recap of a wild Kansas politics story has a lot to say about why the people turning up the Epstein emails were so comfortable that the veil would never be lifted.

The only thing more performative and fake than leaving Dante on your dining room table for visitors to see is pretending it's been there for months.

This is pickup artistry for writers. Wrapping a pristine hundred around a roll of ones and "accidentally" flashing it in the bar.
The credulity.

I just rewatched Glass Onion and this is exactly the kind of nonsense they threw in as a gag to signal to the audience that the character everyone thinks is a genius is actually extremely stupid.

i’ve said this before and i remain convinced it’s true, the 2028 platform that would deliver obama 08 results is “i am gonna
bring the hammer down on the corrupt self-dealing politicians and their rich friends and there are no sacred cows id give a pass”

you could fact check this — there aren’t 30 million illegal immigrants and there is no evidence that the presence of an immigrant in say houston has any impact on housing in madison, wisconsin — or you could note straightforwardly that this is just nazi rhetoric
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

A Conservative view of mine: Hume was spot on to criticize the Stoics for disregarding reputation.

We need to bring back shame, fear for reputation.

Like: giving a public speech to defend promoting a proud, sneering NAZI—then mumbling “I don’t know much about him”—is craven and filthy.

What’s crazy is that this is functionally what’s happening with the ACA tax credits. You’ve basically got a certain amount of subsidy from the credit and you pick a policy off the exchange; the credit reduces the premium.
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

Right, the answer isn't to abandon the party to these weasels.

The answer is to flood the party with people who will take it over and transform it.
Hey, a lot of people are talking about changing affiliation from Democratic to Independent.

Let me tell you why you shouldn’t do that in Colorado.

One of the main ways to get a primary challenge candidate on a ballot is to caucus for your party. You need to be registered as a Dem to caucus.

This is lifted from the novels of Iain M. Banks, which Musk has claimed as an inspiration before. It wasn't stupid in the novels, because they're sci-fi.

Banks famously wrote a villain eerily similar to Musk; he covets ideas and advances he doesn't understand.

I doubt the people who did vote for it have looked at the numbers even once, or experienced a second of empathy.

Trump to the Novo Nordisk CEO: "Maybe you should give us a piece of the company like I've been asking for."
