Context:

Kennedy has suggested letting bird flu spread for herd immunity (Great Barrington Declaration style).

Right-wing groups and operatives have been laying the groundwork, downplaying concerns about the virus and pre-politicizing government efforts to control it (like they did with COVID).

@hannahmwrites.bsky.social Sorry but I have to root against the Tigers come Saturday. But, should they win this series, I’ll hop aboard the bandwagon.

A lot of this country’s problems boil down to straight white men who see themselves as some sort of default “normal” but any variation on that as “an identity” that is “political”

If you haven’t been paying attention to the CDC’s vaccine advisory panel, ACIP, now is a good time to catch up.

ACIP stands for Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. It holds 3 meetings a year and makes vax recommendations to CDC.

In short: Kennedy and his pals are coming for vaccines.

Washington, D.C., has a population roughly equivalent to Alaska's.

And it has zero senators. If D.C. had senators, the GOP megablil bill would have failed today.

Instead, Murkowski got carve-outs and money for Alaska, and then voted to subject DC to the bill

I think we’ve become so inured to this stuff that it’s easy to lose sight of just how quickly epistemic collapse has accelerated. Ten years ago, the media was wringing its hands over social media misinformation and what it meant that Trump had the gall to lie. Now, the lies control health policy.

We need to stop making concessions to the right bc right-wingers get mad.

There’s this big effort to rewrite school closures. Even in ostensibly liberal media, we get solemnly acknowledgments that schools were closed too long.

Not bc of data, but bc right wingers screamed about it long enough.
The truth is, we never, in any systematic way, made classrooms safe, like ensuring upgraded ventilation and air purification in schools.

And COVID ripped through classrooms. Kids fueled household spread and hundreds of thousands of them lost caregivers to the virus.

But we don’t talk about THAT.

The whole thread, up and down,Washington State folks. Local Republicans are trying to sneak bills that criminalize a woman having a miscarriage into law
Republicans bent on this seems to be that women who lose a pregnancy should be investigated to confirm they haven't committed infanticide. So I guess we're embracing the whole Trump line of babies killed after birth on the Republican side. #waleg
