AWS needs to be broken up from Amazon so badly so there can start to be some real competition in the space.
Honestly there needs to be a brand new competitor that isn't tied to other products, like Google and Microsoft.

the aws outage should be evidence that running half the internet on a single company's servers is a terrible idea but i fear nothing will change

Unironically a home project like this has gotten me work. Granted, I also code. But many talented devs don't want to be bothered to learn docker and need DevOps to do it for them.
i feel like my experience running a local NAS / docker stack should count for something in job applications, don't even really care about pay at this point i just want to do some IT work to get experience i can show

Whatever happens, all of it feels like a deeply cynical moment. It feels like the people in charge have simply decided that they no longer have any interest in the social contract.
so much is bad right now but the AI stuff in particular is making me insane. a desperate attempt to smother all human creative labor at an absurd cost to the planet by some of the most short-sighted, rapacious, and pathetic people who have ever lived
