I keep saying this but no one is connecting the dots. The war is to satisfy legal preconditions for mass removal *domestically* of Latinos (i.e., suddenly a lot of people are going to be “Venezuelan” for purposes of removal). This is 100% Stephen Miller…oil claim is to make grandpa go along
There is no national security logic that would impel the US to want to do regime change in Venezuela. It's simply not that important. I'm not even sure wag the dog is the right metaphor for what's happening here. Seems like an insane misallocation of US national security assets and attention.
Trump: "Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest Armada ever assembled ... It will only get bigger, and the shock to them will be like nothing they have ever seen before — Until such time as they return to the USA all of the Oil, Land, and other Assets that they previously stole from us."

One of the biggest moments of my career:
USCIS canceled my client’s naturalization oath ceremony. We filed a lawsuit, went to trial, and the judge swore him in right there in the courtroom!

Love to see the Sedgwick County Zoo putting out a good explainer on why GenAI slop videos of animals are a problem & how to identify them! It’s succinct, easy to read, and doesn’t shame people for not knowing better. A+ useful link to share with family and friends.

The Reality of AI Animal Content – Sedgwick County Zoo
If you spend any time on social media, you’ve probably seen them – bears bouncing on trampolines, apes caught on doorbell cameras, or “rescued” wild animals acting in ways that seem too good to be…

New — While some states have received SNAP benefits for November and USDA is supposedly pushing through all federal payments soon, that doesn’t erase the psychological terror of the last few weeks.

I spoke with 20+ SNAP recipients in 16 states about preparing for a possible future with no food:
The voices of SNAP
Recipients have become political pawns. They explained, in their own words, what Trump withholding funds has been like.

Lawyers have been publicizing a new term to describe ICE's racially targeted detainments: a “Kavanaugh stop.”

This is terrifying!

ICE breaks into this woman’s car in the pick-up line at West Loop Elementary school in Chicago and detains her before she can pick her kids up from school. (They were eventually let go after showing their documents)

This is Trump’s America.

Lindsey Halligan, the attorney selected by Donald Trump to bring criminal charges against James Comey, has never prosecuted a case.

But, like Trump, she did get her start in reality TV — with a brief cameo on South Beach Tow.

Here is Halligan’s newly resurfaced TV moment:

So many of us came so very unwillingly to this place of viewing the Supreme Court as unworthy of being viewed as a judicial body. Unworthy of veneration, unworthy of respect.

So profoundly reluctantly.

But, good lord have they earned it.

It really shouldn’t be a surprise that the pope’s stated values are antithetical to Republicans because the teachings of Jesus as I learned them in Catholic school contained a lot more empathy and caring than what we see from the modern GOP

One of my many frustrations with law school is that "remedies" is an optional class and not an integral part of every single class. One of the most important jobs for lawyers is to say "yes, this violates the law. Now what are the steps we can take to do something about that?"
there is a paradox here: if law is really a function of politics, then you have to think about the politics of saying "there is no law."

if you say "there is law," you open the *possibility* of wielding the law as a weapon against powerful criminals. if you say "there is no law," you give that up.
The plain language of the 14th amendment says insurrectionist Trump couldn’t run a second time, yet here he is as president. Law can’t save you from people who aren’t accountable to it.

One of the hardest things to accept when governments ramp up oppression is how many people are complicit and how many more are cowards. But a lot of cowards can be turned back from their worst selves over time through anti-authoritarian momentum and social pressure.

If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.
