Rosa, our little Orbea Katu cargo bike, has done 5000km! That's 5000km of shopping, vet visits and errands done on a cleaner, kinder, friendlier mode of transport than a car.

I'm just a bloke trying to get to work, and I want to go home to my kids at the end of the day.

Dear Maria, I am one of your constituents (Postcode: ). In the interests of transparency, in my professional life, I am an academic at the University of Liverpool with research interests in Active Travel. However, I am writing to you as a resident. The reason that I am writing is that I have had 3 incidents in the last 24 hours whilst riding my bike to and from work which have been really upsetting. All happened in broad daylight, and all involved drivers nearly crashing into me as if I wasn’t there. It is the last of these incidents, which happened just now which is most upsetting. The driver ‘close passed’ me against a line of parked cars. This gave me three options: 1) Ride into the back of a parked car. 2) Get run over by his car. 3) Stop entirely. The advantage gained by the driver was such that we were both stopped at the next set of traffic lights. At that point he told me to “get off the ****ing road”. This led me to believe that the driver intended to drive like that. As much as I ride a bike to work, I am a normal person. I have two young children. I go to work every day, work hard, and pay my taxes. I am sure that if I met this person in any other walk of life, we might have a perfectly decent interaction. However, the culture on our roads has become so bad that we forget these things. I recognise some of the good things that are happening, both at a Government level, and in Liverpool via the City Council and CA. However, the thing that is missing is the culture shift. Things like the recent changes to the Highway Code are welcome, but they are not filtering through to attitudes on the road. Please could I implore you to raise issues like mine with the Department for Transport? Things like the “Think!” campaign have raised awareness of so many other issues. I do not want to be an obituary in the Echo. Worse yet, I don’t want to be just another Killed and Serious Injured statistic. I’m sorry I have to write in such a sad way – I love riding …

A typical European car is parked 92% of the time. It spends 1/5th of its driving time looking for parking. Its 5 seats only move 1.5 people. 86% of its fuel never reaches the wheels, and most of the energy that does, moves the car, not the people.

I wasn't allowed to have anything to do with Hallowe'en as a child, and as an evangelical adult, I had a very particular worldview, which didn't do me or those around me many favours. The last decade or so has seen significant deconstruction and faith shift for me. I am making up for lost time.

Hey motorcylist, I get that you want to secure your bike while it's parked, but locking it to *both* available cycle hoops, rendering it pretty much impossible for us to lock up our arguably easier to nick bikes seems kinda selfish to me. Maybe think about sharing nicely in future.

56 children were seriously injured on Sheffield roads last year, higher than other recent years.

The OH and I are going by train (with bikes) from Sheffield to Bristol via Shrewsbury, then back to Sheffield. He collected the tickets today. There are 36. Ridiculous.

Your correspondent says 'we should listen' when it comes to Oxford's perennial transport issues. I've been listening. I've listened to people say that children's safety doesn't matter, because drivers can't be expected to slow down. I've listened to people say that bus passengers don't matter, because drivers have more money. I've listened to people say that traffic jams don't matter, because cities will always be congested. I've listened to people say that collisions don't matter, because 'accidents will happen'. I've listened to people say that vehicle emissions don't matter, because climate science isn't real. And I've listened to people say that we mustn't reduce traffic, because that might inconvenience drivers. I've listened, and I'm still waiting to hear a single effective alternative to low traffic.
