Five years ago you could search: "when did the saxophone become an indication of sexy times in film" and you'd get somebody's well-researched article.

Now it's like "sex was invented by the ancient Sumerians as a way to fight ghosts, which they used to brew beer." (search instead for "saxophone?")

Want this on a sign so I can tap it
I have a certain amount of sympathy for fandom culture, because it's basically a manifestation of people's belief that art should belong to the community that creates and participates in it. The problem is that they don't; fandom is the stillbirth of folklore under capitalism.

ANYWAY, did you know there's an extension you can put on Chrome that will connect with your local library system and when you go look at a book, say on AMZ, it will tell you if that book exists in the library system and if it's available?

It's literally called Library Extension.

A big one today with @mikecaulfield.bsky.social. It's about Jan 6th but its really about trying to diagnose what precisely is broken about our information ecosystem and why everything feels so stuck. It's about how the internet is a justification machine. www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...

I'd make a new post about being a Chelsea fan, but this just fits so well at the moment.

Being a Chelsea fan right now.

The YouTube algorithm somehow got around to recommending videos of Waterloo Road and now I'm down a rabbit hole and can't see daylight.

This is a #WarriorNun post, so everyone else can keep scrolling. Still thinking about @simplykorra.bsky.social's post yesterday, and how badly the OCS treated Ava. We had a whole series on this over on the Fandomentals. www.thefandomentals.com/warrior-nun-... (cont)
Warrior Nun Struggles As a Trauma Narrative (Part 1) - The Fandomentals
Warrior Nun presents Ava as an abuse survivor who grew into an empathetic, subversive feminist, but viewers can easily miss that as the show does not address the Sisters’ mistreatment of Ava.
