Persistently annoyed by liberal refusal to see the longstanding system of immigration, the one that effectively places undocumented workers outside of the protections of labor law and subjects them to racial terror, as a strategy of labor discipline that affects all workers.

Why do we expect our entertainers to be politicians and our politicians to be entertainers? A good friend of mine said that recently when he spoke to my class. Kinda makes you think.

Too true.

Down to $400 that I need TODAY!!!!
Reposting this one more time. I have until the morning to raise $700 to keep our room. I’m sick and have no sick time and have to go to work tomorrow. I need to try to secure our lodging thru til I get paid next. Anything anyone can spare would be tremendously appreciated!
Reaching out for mutual aid to keep our room for the next week as well as some other expenses. Any dollar helps but sharing and reposting is also extremely beneficial. Really cannot overstate how grateful I am for all the support. I know how rough it is out there. Thank you!

I love this scene because it takes the infamous "one more thing" and gives it a little twist. Instead of it being a dire omen, it's an act of kindness. www.youtube.com/watch?v=asZn...

I still have $750 to raise in the next two days. Thank you again to all who have donated and shared so far! Any dollar helps, even just sharing this when you see it.

I have come to the idea that we have to collectively, brutally, ritualistically kill Target just to show capital that we truly aren’t fucking around.

The degree in which the hearing aid place continues to call and leave voicemails despite knowing that I CAN NOT hear-they know this because they tested me and helped me pick out my hearing aids-is troubling.

This one of many reasons why critics are still important. It’s our job to seek out art that’s outside the algorithm, because most people don’t even know what their options are anymore.
The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

I was snowed in for the weekend and watched McCabe & Mrs. Miller, something like, seven times. Or the time I saw Rules of the Game and watched either a special feature from the DVD or the commentary, or a couple of scenes that would lead to just watching the movie from there everyday for a week.
There's talk of "victory of the nerds" but something got lost along the way. Time was "nerd" meant "enthusiast" (is "otaku" clearer?). US massmarket nerd-dom isn't for enthusiasts. Disney/Sony sells you a pipe of things you probably like. Enthusiasts don't want to like things, they want to love them

On this particular day I want to say that a critic's job is to criticize art, and an artist's job is to make something that resonates with specific people, which necessarily means it won't resonate with others. If every critic liked a piece of art, one or the other of us would not be doing our jobs.
