Probably riding Mike's coatails a bit, but them's the breaks for waiting lol

Here it is: Producer Max's 20 Best Action Films of 2025. Plenty I saw and plenty I didn't get to. But the longer I'm with the show, the more varied and intersting my lists get.

Shout out to @timessqkungfu.bsky.social and @headexposure.bsky.social for always being my guiding lights on finding this stuff. Without them this would have been a much more mundane list.

Honorable mention to Tatsujin Warriors which I didn't want to put on the list because I watched it without subtitles and it just didn't feel right. But it could easily go in the top 10. Hell of a year for Koichi Sakamoto (including getting interviewed by The Boys)

What a year for animated action! IAWIA, Chainsaw Man and Ne Zha 2 all had incredible fights and action design. And that doesn't include KPop Demon Hunters which I left off because it's more of a musical with action, and Legend of Hei 2 and Demon Slayer which I didn't see

Hi-Five has the year's best needle drop
I Am What I Am 2 is easily the best pure martial arts movie of the year
Chainsaw Man just wrecked me.
Ghost Killer was the most fun I had watching an action movie.

All four of the them could be swapped around on an any given day

Alright I'm locking this in even though I still need to see Cells at Work and Blood Brothers: Bara Naga. My top 20 action movies of the year. Remember if your favorite isn't here I didn't see it, didn't like it, or left it off just to piss you off

Wrapping this up (because there are like 6 of you who got this far) I want to thank everyone who supported and guided my writing this year. I hope to continue more of it into 2026, while expanding my horizons even further.

I'll have a different end of year wrap up post later.

And finally, my fifth piece of the year was return to Fangoria where Angel Melanson encouraged me to get a bit weird and philosophical about a game that means a great deal to me: Alan Wake 2.

"There was a crack in the Lake House. The Marmonts had let the lake in, but the water could not flow."

I'm proud to debut my sophmore effort from @fangoria.bsky.social on ALAN WAKE 2 where I bridge the game's deeper thematic underpinnings with the philisophical theory of Hyperstition.
In ALAN WAKE 2, players are at times both creator and victim, exploring the concept of “Hyperstition” in a horrifying way, making this perfect for a Halloween season playthrough.

Luck would have it that I was able to publish the first of two pieces this year with Fangoria. The first of which was a 70th anniversary piece on one of my all time favorite films: THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER.

Kinda fascinating watching the Japanese version with English subtitles. All those nuances, phrases, and bits of world building translated over to adds and subtracts in subtle ways.
Still perhaps the most (Producer) Max movie ever. You want it? It's got it.

If you want to hear The Boys shoot the shit and roast Producer Max (me), I recommend listening to the last year's worth of episodes. I gurantee you'll be entertained & informed.
