this character oscillates from genre & tone to the next. This following two prior entries in the series that he helmed proves that the blood, gore, and violence isn't going anywhere. At the very least this acts as a great gateway entry for younger fans. Now enjoy the ranking:

Some will gnash teeth at how much the tone of this doesn't gel with what came before, but I'd argue by going this route it kinda proves the Predator as being one of our most malleable cinematic figures, human or otherwise. If nothing else Trachtenberg is flexing just how easily....

they're the kind of movies that people write off as entertaining trash but "the beauty of pulp" (per Kathryn Bigelow) is that filmmakers can stuff their genre movies full of covert subversive subtext. which isn't true of every Predator movie, but a few are smarter than they're given credit for.
