It's frustrating. I've just started using the block add-on tool on authors who do it, because it started making me dislike Beatrice as a character. They can write what they want to write; I simply no longer read it.

Or she's there to serve as Beatrice's emotional support NPC. :/

She made her fair share of mistakes in canon (some she apologized for, some not) and it's not fair to jam her back into that perfect box her parents forced her in, nor is it fair to make Ava always the one having to come back and apologize.

Basically, just because you love something doesn't make it free of criticism, and this is a legitimate area where the show could have and should have done better. And it sadly had a ripple effect on some viewers who adopted the OCS opinion without real examination to demonize Ava instead.

the majority of their order were killed by Adriel. A foundation built on rotten roots isn't going to magically get better until the rot is both acknowledged and cut out. And let's not forget some of the RW atrocities already floating about that church that painfully enhance this issue. (cont)

As mentioned, a lot of the "sins" of the sisters and the OCS are simply glazed over in season two, probably for narrative reasons and Netflix constraints. But I still think it was something that needed to be addressed and the horror aspects of the OCS seemed to be handwaved after (cont)

One of my lasting critiques of the series is that it never truly addressed any of this. By season two it's handwaved and forgotten, and Ava never got an apology for any of it. I maintain if the drugging and waking up bound to a bed scene were with a group of guys, it'd be the setup to a horror film.
