The coolest thing I’ve seen today is that a bunch of volunteer public health professionals and developers have restored the CDC website from before January 20th 2025.

This differs from an archive in that they want to rebuild the links between pages and replicate the full website.

Advocate [Mar 8] -- An AZ Walmart called the cops on a Black cis lesbian who is stud-identified while using the restroom to put in a tampon. "The only men in the restroom were the cops," she said after. Even after raising her shirt one insisted she "looked like a man." [@rikiwilchins.bsky.social‬]

one of my central beliefs, really genuinely and sincerely is that cars are fundamentally evil and indoctrinate people into extremely reactionary ideology.
I am not joking.

81 Democrats voted to ban gender affirming care for the children of military families. Absolutely disgraceful. This is the first national ban on care to pass congress and the first anti LGBTQ bill in nearly 3 decades.
The National Defense Authorization Act, which enacts the first federal anti-lgbtq law in decades and targets the trans kids of military servicemembers, just passed with 80 Democratic votes.

Shameful.

Will get the list of dems who voted for it shortly.

I was told explicitly by a top nyt exec, Carolyn Ryan, that the nyt would never hire a trans journo who’d ever covered trans issues. By her account, a trans journo versed in the issues is by definition biased. That is not ofc a standard the nyt applies to any other group or issue. (Nor should it)
I’ve been saying for years that sports newsrooms are wholly unprepared for this political moment. imo it’s journalistic malpractice not to have a writer on staff who can cover trans sports stories well. But I can’t even place freelance coverage at this point. It’s so bleak.
Work has been drying up for trans writers for years. Of course, part of this is bc work has been drying up for all journalists.

However, with trans issues as the top priority of the Republican party there's a strong journalistic argument for increasing or maintaining that capacity.

This is literally true.

School vouchers were pioneered as a way to help white supremacists send their kids to a new wave of private "segregation academies" created expressly for the purpose.

We shouldn’t accept that a CEO killer must get a national manhunt when cops don’t solve most murders at all. A migrant teenager was just murdered in NYC, cops just killed a guy here — the lives of these other people are worth just as much as that CEO.

Obergefell is doomed if this logic holds
Amy Coney Barrett suggests that the health care ban might not be sex discrimination under the 14th Amendment because its "burdens of the law fall equally on boys and girls because neither can transition." She asks if it should be seen more as targeted discrimination against transgender people.

Importantly these policies are discussed bans on public funding for trans care but, as trans adults even with private insurance in Florida and South Carolina are learning, it leads to hospitals canceling all appointments because they don't separate public/private funding streams

The sinister effectiveness of the “Think about detransitioners*” argument is that it implicitly gives cis people gender dysphoria-like feelings, which make them uncomfortable, which they then use to punish people who experience those feelings with far more frequency.

I think they see it just fine
Barrett and other conservatives don't seem to see how state-sanctioned discrimination against trans people basically always takes the form of sex discrimination—imposing unique restrictions on people's rights based on their sex assigned at birth. Frustrating that the argument isn't breaking through.

this is an argument for banning both all plastic surgery and knee replacements
Kavanaugh obsessed over trans people "regretting" their decision to transition and that being a state interest.

Setting aside the fact that the rate of "regret" is very low, it's not the state's job to protect people from regret.

This is an argument for the ultimate nanny-state.
