the fact that being really into eugenics appears to sort people for being shitty human is kind of amazing. like there is, in theory, room to be super interested in the area in principle and not be a shitty human being, but the correlation is robust
The Epstein stuff is always so amazing to me because it's like "yes he was a sex criminal but if you can get past that, he was also an avowed eugenicist"

Pretty much throughout history we have people in powerful positions who are bad at their job or good at their job. Trump 2.0 is the only Administration ever filled with people who are literally trying to accomplish the opposite of what the job was created to do. It’s not like anything else.

this whole "did my own research" thing is so silly because everything else apart, if you gave a shit about this subject you would have already been doing research instead of waiting to start when it trended on your social media. You are not researching. You're fadding. You must accept this.

A few un-fun facts:
* Cancers of internal organs may not show any obvious symptoms until it's way too late;
* Some symptoms may be indistinguishable from those of other ailments;
* Some cancers go from 0 to 60 in weeks;
* Cancer is, generally, a bitch. A sneaky bitch, at that. Fuck cancer.

A swing voter is not a centrist. It's like, a guy who loves guns but has a gay sister, loves weed but hates food stamps because his cousin who owes him 50 bucks gets them. (Also, Osama was Iraqi.) You don't win that guy with a carefully crafted platform, you do it by not seeming fucking lame
I really feel like more people need to constructively engage with this! You can think the moderation/centrism discourse is often braindead (as I do!) but the center left really needs a pretty robust convo about what winning, say, an Iowa or Kansas or Texas or Ohio senate seat would look like.
It’s because of the senate map

Even accepting the premise that AI produces useful writing (which no one should), using AI in education is like using a forklift at the gym. The weights do not actually need to be moved from place to place. That is not the work. The work is what happens within you.

Of course, one of the few things where I agree with Peter Navarro is that Elon Musk is a worthless idiot, too.
Peter Navarro goes full Baghdad Bob about the Dow losing 1,000 points today and being down 5 of the 6: "You had the highest rise in stock market history yesterday. Of course there's gonna be a little pullback ... it's no big deal."

This thread, but for people who cook:
Imagine someone claiming to be a master chef. He's "finishing up" a vegan dish that he claims he made himself.
He is now sprinkling undercooked bacon bits over it, right before your eyes.
That's how gamers feel about Elon.
I was trying to explain the whole "Elon Musk cheats at video games" thing to a non-gamer and I think got a good analogy for crafters: imagine you want to convince people you made the skull quilt that raised nearly $6k for Romancing the Vote this year: www.32auctions.com/organization...

Trump TRIED TO OVERTHROW THE GOVERNMENT, and our solution was, literally, “let him off the hook and hope he simply goes away of his own accord.” And then we were shocked when he came back and… showed no respect for the law or government. He’d already committed the worst treason in US history!

Whatever the immediate fallout of the scandal, what is going to stick around is the impression it gives, of hapless idiots doing ridiculous things. And I think that seriously reduces the appeal of capitulating to these jokers.
