There's a dog going into Hour Four of barking outside the very place where I am trying to work and honestly if I could get the poor hound into my own home I would.

C'mon Ireland. Of all cities, Galway is the one that needs more people to not use cars to get around and this is what they face. Daily!
The hubby was wearing high vis, bike lit up like an xmas tree a few hours ago. He was signalling right, had taken his road position to turn when an a**h*le in a big posh car overtook him too fast and too close anyway. Driver definitely saw. Just didn't give a crap about another human's safety.
👀 Can you see me now?

The importance of visibility on our roads cannot be understated, particularly for vulnerable road users including pedestrians, cyclists, e-scooter drivers and motorcyclists.

If ever two groups needed reminding that Twitter and Facebook are not real life, it's journalists and politicians.

Eventually, long after it is needed and that need is clear to everyone, Ireland will switch to competing with other EU countries to attract migrants to choose it as a destination.

By then, whole generations of then-forgotten politicians will have made careers of poisoning the well of our reputation

You can be sure the same is true in Ireland, and that raises the question: should journalists even be engaging with the platform, let alone allowing it - consciously or subconsciously - to inform their coverage?
NEWS: I spent the past 24 hours going through major MAGA accounts on Twitter, and a bombshell development has become clear: most of the right-wing ecosphere is being fed propaganda from foreign actors.

This impacts elections. This impacts discourse. This is major. Subscribe to support my work:

Over the 19 years Ireland has had a derogation from the nitrates directive we have backed ourselves in to a corner. Which now leaves us having productive and economically viable farms or cleaner rivers and lakes, but not both.

Nitrates derogation
Back in the early nineties all across the EU a rule was introduced to protect rivers and streams from agricultural run off. At the last count 7,000 out of 137,000 farms in Ireland had received a derog...

this reminds me of an argument I had with some tech dude when I said social media needs to be moderated properly. He said that was "impossible to do at scale" and I'm like it's not "impossible at scale" it's just that tech companies don't want to pay for it, and we haven't made them. It's a choice
re: roblox dude's interview crashout. the thing he wants to say but can't is "at scale, kids are gonna get hurt. that is the price for scale." the thing nobody wants to say out loud is "maybe scaling to a level where harm isn't manageable is bad, and scale should be contained"

this week's newsletter is titled "aren't you tired of feeling insane all the time?" and I think it speaks for itself

Irish Government should be doing the same - it's crazy that state depts are sharing a site that's openly denying the Holocaust

That American politics went off the rails after Barack Obama and British ethnonationalism has reared its head after Rishi Sunak is the real tell about how committed some people are to integration and post racial politics.
A country where Sadiq Khan can lead London, Humza Yousaf can lead Scotland, and Rishi Sunak can lead Britain is a country where the racists had *lost*. So much of this vicious bile has come directly after that and almost no one seems to draw the connection
