only 2 months ago, pro-Palestinian protesters at La Vuelta were being told that protesting a bike race won’t make a difference

today, the team they were protesting announced that they’ve dumped their owner, rebranded and registered in a new country

one of the biggest lies people believe about #adoption is that it is a solution for people who do not want to raise their children instead of being a system designed to extract children from those who do.

Respect Alice Wong’s call here:
“When I am in public spaces and see most people unmasked either because they think the virus is a hoax, that masking is virtue signaling & a sign of weakness, aren't thinking about it, or that they simply don’t care, I feel like an expendable burden not worth saving.”

Forgot to post this egregious document tomfoolery to the adoptee feed #adoptee 🥚
I requested my OBC after that became possible and they redacted the box that said whether I was a single birth or a multiple! Luckily they are bad at their job and left the little tail of the g visible so I could deduce single birth. But they think I don’t get to know whether I’m a twin?!

I wrote about Ta-Nehisi Coates and Ezra Klein, why swallowing live frogs is a bad idea, and how context and history can release you from bright-kid syndrome, the illusion that you yourself are going to have every answer or fix the world.
You don't have to swallow frogs
Klein and Coates show that if you don't know what your core beliefs are, you're going to get played.

i understand why so many people are ignorant about adoption, adoptees are like 1 to 3% of the population. what i don't get is why they're so confident they aren't, to the point of shouting down actual adoptees constantly. 🥚

i think that anyone with children who defends #adoption on the grounds that adoptees enjoy better lives with their adopters than in their original families and communities should reflect on where & to whom they should have relinquished their own children. shouldn’t we pursue full-scale optimization?

If anything, it's the other way around. Adoptees literally have the least amount of power in the euphemistically named "adoption triad." Everything was done to us without our consent.

In 2020, Arundhati Roy wrote a gorgeous, prescient essay called “The Pandemic is a Portal”. In this piece, I discuss who actually walked through it: the COVID conscious community, and why I’m proud to be a part of it.

The Pandemic Has Been a Portal (for a few of us)
It's true that most people keep choosing "normalcy". But the COVID conscious community is showing us a radical new way forward, that centers care

I am often asked: what about gay people who want to adopt? I actually think it’s really important to push back on this question, and any question that centers prospective adoptive parents. Adoption isn’t — or at least shouldn’t be — about sourcing babies for people who want them.

the United States is by far the largest “receiving country” of intercountry adoptions in the world. To keep the commerce running smoothly, US #adoption agencies falsify children’s histories.

not coincidentally (I believe), the US has refused to ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
