There’s the people who came up before auto-restore was a thing who all have a story about losing a term paper because their computer crashed before they could save.

And there’s the people who came up after.

I think this is some British variety of American leftists convincing themselves they aren’t assholes by claiming “Kamala would have been just as bad.”

And it’s gone past the point where it’s legal restrictions. They bristle even at social disapproval now!

Sort of. A lot of its erosion was losing its material support as Islamic empires began to dominate the Silk Road trade routes. Buddhism was most popular among rich merchant and trading castes so once they started to convert it lost its sources of patronage.

Yeah my wife and I joined the diversity committees at our respective jobs and quit out of frustration. They were barely more than book clubs and group therapy that didn’t seem to care about doing anything. And what they did drive felt more like preachy evangelism than structural policy changes.

Even their ideas about who
to listen to is blinkered because they’re looking for people who can utter the right woke shibboleths instead of authentically represent the subaltern voices they’re supposed to. The whole thing turned into a performative subculture with no goal but to propagate itself.
February 6, 2026 at 8:02 PM
So who does the job then? Mostly the people who have presided over the structures we’ve been complaining about all this time. So we end up with performative, virtue signaling nonsense because it’s out-of-touch, wealthy White people trying to imagine what will make those marginalized groups happy

It’s crucial failing was falling into a pattern “my job as an activist is to identify problems to complain about” but figuring out practical, actionable steps to fix them is someone else’s job.

The next time I see a trad right culture warrior going on a diatribe about social degeneracy Is gonna have to end up like this:

It’s funny that this is the first post I see right after I tabbed out of finishing this article: www.welcometohellworld.com/a-high-heel-...

Can’t we invent new slurs just for fascists instead?

Lot of people have confused professional consultants trying to score settle by feeding quotes to Politico to dodge blame for the loss with deep insight as to what really happened.

You have to respect him bringing his expertise on genetics and heritability to this debate. It is unrealistic to think the daughter of Zeus would be anything but Caucasian. As we all know, the Sky Father can only be White.

I don’t know if a uniform swing of, like, 2% of voters constitutes a ”resounding” anything. We talk about every change in hands as if there’s an earthquake in popular opinion but it’s only the outcomes that swing because of how winner-take-all the system is. The ground reality barely needs to shift.

The fake internet points are worth more to some people than money.

Elon Musk burned $44,000,000,000 because he thought it would level up his poasting.

This video made me realize some dudes spent too much time online during COVID and never got the necessary social pushback and corrective actions in their formative years.

Just flagrantly talking shit to a football player 2x your size is keyboard warrior behavior bleeding into real life.

Flipboard and Apple News both kind of do this, but there doesn’t seem to be much money in it.

This would actually be a great way to sweeten the pot for a VPN subscription service come to think of it.

But if you’re not logging in you can’t interact with the media (likes, comments). That’s probably fine, but worth being aware of.

I don’t even think liberals are confident that their fellow liberals sincerely believe in it to be honest. If we were we’d probably be more willing to take our own side in an argument.
February 4, 2026 at 7:32 PM
Nobody seems to think liberalism is a sincerely held value. The Right thinks we’re NPCs domesticated by the media to suppress the primordial racism that gives our lives meaning. The Left thinks we’ve been placated by bread & circuses and ‘false consciousness’ into ignoring our material conditions.

Even if the top line indicators improve I think worsening inequality frays social cohesion. If the social trust starts to erode then subcultures that are easy to identify and set apart are the first ones to get looked at with suspicion.

As I wrote this I realized my relationship to paying content is less like a transactional exchange of money for content and more like I’m a little Medici doling out patronage. There’s probably some implications around how that changes the incentive structures that I’m not clairvoyant enough to see.

If there was more like “We shovel slop to make money to fund cool stuff” I might care more, but it increasingly feels like cool stuff gets funded through other channels. When there’s a parasocial connection to the creators I get guilted into subscribing, but when it’s run by shareholder logic? Nah.
