This was the wrap up I didn’t know I needed. 11/10 good job keeping us safe despite our best efforts to explode ourselves
It was a year of large spiders, large moths, large eagles and a wall of ducks. A year of art, squirrels, monsters, and Knife Ghosts. It was a year of not establishing parasocial relationships on Bluesky. The best year yet. And now, for your consideration, our favorite safety graphics made in 2024...

One of the best pieces of advice a senior executive gave to we juniors was never use your sick days when you're sick. Save them for days that it's sunny & beautiful outside. Always passed that on & it makes such a difference in your people's perspective

One of the things I am most grateful for in my work life is how genuinely respectful everyone on my team is of boundaries. It’s expected that when you’re on lunch, you are on lunch and NOT responding to pings. When you’re off, you’re off, and my team models it. That should be the norm everywhere.
Covid remote work offered new flexibility around where to work and which tasks to do when, but also created an "expectation of omnipresence"--pressure to respond immediately to digital alerts, even during meetings and off hours, that carried back to the office.

Scout heard about the orcas using salmon as hats and was jealous that the trend started without him. He also doesn’t know what a salmon actually IS but he is committed to fashion. So he got creative with this artful hay fascinator that may inspire a wave of copycats within equine society.

Friends (and enemies? Not that I really have any. Other than my nemesis in Finance) HOW do you handle a cross country move? I am getting overwhelmed and will happily take any and all tips and suggestions

I broke my leg *in my doctor’s office* two hours after defending my dissertation.

(For the medical nerds, it was a medial malleolus avulsion fracture and a gnarly lateral ligament sprain)
What's a thing that happened to you that sounds made up? For me it was when I was 20 and I had a job at the Louvre auditorium and former French president Valéry Giscard D'Estaing hit on me in front of his wife

Seeing a sea turtle GLOW after building her nest and laying her eggs remains one of the coolest things I have ever experienced. Nature is incredible
We simply dont talk about about how batshit insane bioluminescence is, like theres a shrimp down there 3 miles under the water literally farting rainbows right now

I want the ability to bookmark posts but in the meantime I guess reposting (reskeeting?) will have to suffice
Okay, here we go. Tumblr thread time. I'm going to copy and paste whatever my computer picks up for text; I hope it's not too hard to parse.

If you want people to stay and do good work, then creating a culture that does not tolerate harassment needs to be prioritized. It’s not hard to see the connection between feeling safe and performing well. The challenge(s) is changing ingrained cultural norms that tacitly allow ongoing harassment
"The more often women are sexually harassed in a context, the more they think about leaving (and some do ultimately leave); the net result of sexual harassment is therefore a loss of talent, which can be costly to organizations and to science, engineering, and medicine"

1b. for academic work, how higher ed honors programs essentially work as a tracking mechanism
2. the demographic cliff and how it’s (not?) impacting HE responses to Covid, Palestine, or election results

My great-grandmother was one of the first women in her small town to work outside the home. Her husband decided to do medical school in his 40s, and to support the family she got a job at the small town post office. She supported her family on that salary while he went to school.
Give me one interesting fact about your family history that you learned.

I am Sports-adjacent at best but I will be thrilled when Gritty shows up here. I am not a Philly sports team person, and I can’t claim any particular connection to the city (beyond loving it the times I’ve visited)

I just really unironically love Gritty
guys I dunno how to tell you this but SportsSky is here. It's really happened. We are so back(we were never here before)

OKAY by special request, here comes the encore performance of How Hans Christian Andersen Was a Bisexual Disaster.
